Another Pinterest Case

I found a card on pinterest which I just loved for its simplicity and decided to recreate it a-la-Stampin’ Up! You can see the original card here.

I used the Beautiful Wings embosslit to cut Tangerine Tango, Daffodil Delight, Old Olive, Tempting Turquoise and Pacific Point card stock. I attached the largest butterfly from each of these colours down the left hand side of scored and folded Whisper White card stock. I placed Mini Glue Dots in the centre of the butterflies and dimensionals under each wing to give a little lift. I stamped the greeting from Sincere Salutations using Tangerine Tango ink. Lastly I added Basic Rhinestones to each butterfly. Very simple but I think it is a fun and easy card to make.

Sunny Creations Challenge No. 42

The challenge this week has been set by Vicky. She has given us a great sketch and asked that we use the Baby Wipe Technique. Well I have never used this technique in any way shape or form, so it really was a challenge for me.

I decided to go with the swiping option, rather than the stamping option. There are good tutorials on these techniques on Splitcoast Stampers here and here. I folded up my baby wipe and added some drops of Night of Navy and Bashful Blue reinkers. I swiped this across my Whisper White Glossy White card stock and got a lovely striped pattern. I didn’t want to blend the colours too much. I then stamped the large floral image from the Creative Elements stampset using Night of Navy ink over the background. I wrapped the piece with Whisper White 5/8″ Organza Ribbon, tied a knot and attached the piece to scored and folded Night of Navy card stock. I stamped the greeting from the Petite Pairs stampset and punched it out using the Large Oval Punch. I attached the greeting to a Night of Navy Decorative Label and attached it over the ribbon using dimensionals. I stamped the image from the Mixed Bunch stamp set using Night of Navy ink and punched it out using the Blossom Punch. I used my bone folder to curve the petals slightly downward and added a Night of Navy Flower brad to the centre. I couldn’t resist adding a Small Basic Rhinestone to the centre of the Flower brad. I wanted the curve on the petals to stay once it was attached to the card front so I added a dimensional under each petal and used Mini Glue Dots in the centre to attach it to the card front.

Sunny Challenges Week 41

It was my turn to create the challenge this week and as well as providing a sketch, I want you to use the 2010-2012 In-Colours. These colours will be retiring this year and I thought it appropriate that we use them a bit more before they go. Concord Crush was my favourite colour when these in-colours first appeared but I haven’t used it so much of late.

I cut a piece of Pear Pizzazz card stock and ran it through the Big Shot using the Stripes Embossing Folder. I attached it to Whisper White card stock and then stamped the greeting from the Sincere Salutations stamp set in the bottom right hand corner using Concord Crush ink. I wrapped this piece with Concord Crush 1/2″ Stitched Poly Ribbon, tied a knot and attached it to scored and folded Concord Crush card stock. I inked the image from the Friends Never Fade stampset using Concord Crush and Pear Pizzazz Stampin’ Write Markers and stamped onto Whisper White card stock. I cut this image using one the Framelits Labels Collection Dies and attached it to another label cut from Concord Crush card stock. I attached the image panel to the card front using dimensionals.

Here is a close up of the image. I actually don’t use this stampset as much as I should – it is a really pretty floral image – and I love how using the Stampin’ Write Markers lets you show up the detail of the flowers.

I’m going to let you in on a little secret. I actually made this card quite some time ago but I made it using the wrong in-colours. So I had to remake it using the right ones. You would think that I could get my own challenge right! Apparently not! Anyway here is the same card made using the 2011-2013 in-colours.

Another Sunny Challenges Card

I loved the sketch for our challenge this week and as well as making the card I shared on Sunday, I used the sketch to make a card for my class at Beachmere. I wanted the ladies to use markers to ink up their stamps and the single tree image in the Lovely as a Tree stamp set works perfectly.

I embossed Whisper White card stock using the Perfect Polka Dots embossing folder and attached it to Early Expresso card stock. I attached a piece of Letters to Santa Designer Series Paper to Early Expresso card stock and then to the card front. I stamped “very merry” from the Short and Sweet stamp set onto Whisper White card stock, attached it to Early Expresso card stock and then to the card front. The tree image is inked using Old Olive and Early Expresso Stampin’ Write Markers and then stamped onto Whisper White card stock (the ladies used the stamp-a-ma-jig to make sure the image was exactly where they wanted it). I love how much detail you can get by using this method to ink up your stamps. Basically I colour most of the image using the Old Olive Stampin’ Write Marker and then use the Early Expresso Stampin’ Write Marker to add colour to the base and parts of the stem. It gives the image so much more dimension. The image is attached to Early Expresso card stock and then to the card front using dimensionals.

Sunny Challenges Week 40

Gwen has set the challenge for us this week and all we have to do is use the sketch. For some reason this sketch just seemed perfect for Tree Trimmings. It’s not too early to think of Christmas is it?

Anyway I embossed Whisper White card stock using the Perfect Polka Dots Embossing Folder and attached it to scored and folded Early Expresso card stock. I attached a piece of Letters to Santa Designer Series Paper to Early Expresso card stock and attached it to the card front. I stamped “very merry” from the Short and Sweet stampset using Early Expresso ink onto Whisper White card stock, attached it to Early Expresso card stock and then to the card front. I stamped the image from the Tree Trimmings stampset using Ridinghood Red ink onto Whisper White card stock three times. I also stamped the image once onto scrap Whisper White card stock and cut it out. I used a ruler and the Ridinghood Red Stampin’ Write Marker to add the “strings” to my baubles. I attached the cut image over the top of the top left hand stamped image using a dimensional. I added Basic Rhinestones to the baubles, just to add that Christmassy sparkle. I attached the image panel to Early Expresso card stock and then to the card front using dimensionals. It’s a bit early to make a prediction but I think this one might be one that I use for my family this year.

Clean & Simple Sketch

You may have noticed that I do love to make cards that have lots of white. I love the clean look and have been inspired greatly by Mary Brown who makes some absolutely stunning cards in this style. Therefore the sketches at Clean and Simple are ones that always appeal to me and this week was no exception.

I used embossed Whisper White card stock using the Framed Tulips Embossing Folder and attached it to scored and folded Concord Crush card stock. I stamped “happy birthday wishes” from the Petite Pairs stamp set using Concord Crush ink. I stamped the flower from the Array of Sunshine stamp set using Concord Crush ink onto Whisper White card stock three times. I cut smaller sections from each stamped flower and attached them back together using dimensionals. I stamped the leaf branch onto Whisper White card stock using Pear Pizzazz card stock and cut them out. I snipped the small leaf from the branch on each one. I attached the leaves onto the panel with the greeting and attached the flower over the top. This piece was then attached to Concord Crush card stock and then to the card front. Lastly I added a Basic Rhinestone to the centre of the flower.

I love how this looks and I really love the Concord Crush/Whisper White combo. So, what do you think?

A Sparkly card

Here is a card I made a while ago and never got around to sharing with you.

I started with scored and folded Whisper White card. I cut Red Glimmer paper 7cm wide and Basic Black card stock 8cm wide. I matched each edge and then cut using the Adorning Accents Edgelets. First one side and then the other so that the shapes matched and you can see a nice Basic Black edge alongside the Real Red Glimmer paper.

I stamped the image from the Apothecary Art stamp set using Stazon Jet Black ink. I coloured the image using Real Red and Old Olive Stampin’ Write Markers and a Blender Pen. The image is cut using the matching size die from the Labels Collection Framelits. I covered the image with Versamark ink and then poured over equal parts of Dazzling Diamonds and Heat & Stick Powder and used the Heat Gun to set it and to make it all sparkly. I attached the image to Basic Black card stock cut with the next size larger Labels Collection Framelits.

The image panel is attached to the card front using dimensionals.

I actually made this card when the Autumn/Winter Mini Catalogue was released. I’d love to hear what you think.

Sunny Challenges Week 39

Well this week at Sunny Challenges and Creations Vicky set the challenge and believe you me it had me thinking for quite a while. She gave us this sketch and the colour combo Soft Suede, Tempting Turquoise and Melon Mambo. I had to think about this one for about two days before I had a clue and I’m still not sure about what I have done.

Anyway, I started with a card base of Tempting Turquoise and then added a layer of Soft Suede to the top. I punched strips of Melon Mambo card stock using the Lace Ribbon Border Punch. I threaded the punched card stock with Very Vanilla 1/8″ Tafetta Ribbon and added a couple of Tempting Turquoise Glimmer Brads to each piece. They are then attached to the sides of the Soft Suede card stock. I stamped a piece of Very Vanilla card stock using two of the stamps from the Delicate Doilies stamp set using Tempting Turquoise and Melon Mambo ink. I also stamped one of the flower centres from the Mixed Bunch stampset using Soft Suede ink. I sponged the edges of this piece using Soft Suede ink and then added it to the centre of the card front. I stamped “happy birthday” from the Easy Events stampset onto Very Vanilla card stock using Soft Suede ink and punched it using the Word Window Punch. I attached the greeting to a Tempting Turquoise Modern Label and then to the card front using dimensionals.

Well, as I said, I am not convinced about the results, but I would love to know what you think.

A Birthday Gift

When I made the card in this post which was the CASE from Pinterest, I couldn’t share this variation because I made it for a friend for their birthday which we celebrated last night (Happy Birthday Sharron). Sharron loves purple and so I made the same card but added 3d flowers instead of the punched flowers in my first card. I also made her a gift card holder to match the card.

Here is a photo of the gift card holder open and the inside of the card. I only decorate the inside of my card once I know who I am going to give it to. You can find the tutorial for this cute little Gift Card Holder on Andrea Walford’s blog.

I made a gift bag to house the card and gift card holder also using the same layout. The gift bag actually started life as a large envelope. You seal the envelope and cut off one end so that it is open and then score down the two sides and across the bottom. You attach pieces of card stock to the front and the back and then open out the envelope and fold under the little triangle in the bottom corners and there you have it – instant gift bag. I love making gift bags this way because I can convert an envelope which is just the right size to hold my gift.

I made the flowers by punching Elegant Eggplant card stock using the 2-3/8″ Scallop Circle, the 1-3/4″ Scallop Circle and the 1-1/4″ Circle punches. Then I cut them into spirals and rolled them up. I like to hold my flowers in place with a little crystal effects. Once my flowers were dry I attached them to the cards, gift holder and bag using Mini Glue Dots and then added the Basic Pearls to the centre.

I cut the leaves from Always Artichoke card stock using the Little Leaves Sizzlet. The ribbon is Rose Red 1/2″ Seam Binding and the embossing folder I used is Finial Press.
