Father’s Day

July 9, 2011

I know it’s not Father’s Day until September but I held a class in the school holidays for children and they made Father’s Day gifts for their Dad’s.

The first thing they made was this box to hold the present.  The box is constructed from Sahara Sand card.  The children had a little help from 2 Mum’s who stayed for the class (thanks Sarah and Vee).  Once they had assembled the box, they used the Big Shot and two different folders (Perfect Polka Dots and Square Lattice)  to create the Very Vanilla panel.  A strip of Marina Mist card to hide the join of the two folders and then they attached it to the layers and to the front of the box.  They stamped “Happy Father’s Day” from the Occasional  Greetings Stampset using Night of Navy ink onto Very Vanilla card.  With some help for the younger ones, they cut around the image and added it to the mats and attached it to the front of the box. I cut the large Night of Navy and Marina Mist stars using the Movers and Shapers Punch Windows and the children punched out the smaller Very Vanilla and Night of Navy stars.  The largest Night of Navy star is layered with a Very Vanilla star and then each one was embossed using the Perfect Polka Dots or Square Lattice Embossing Folders   They assembled their stars and added them to the front of the box according to their taste.  I was quite impressed with the way they put them together.  They added a little embossed Very Vanilla card to the fold back clip to hold the box closed.

Next they made a simple chocolate slider to go inside the box.  The Sahara Sand card has been wheeled with the Classic Stars Jumbo Wheel using Versamark ink.  They stamped “love you” from the Short and Sweet stampset using Night of Navy ink onto Very Vanilla card and punched it out using the Small Oval punch and added a Marina Mist or Night of Navy  Large Oval Punch, depending on which they liked.  They punched the 3 small stars from each of the colours and added them around the greeting, again, according to their own taste.  The ribbon is Marina Mist 1/4″ grosgrain.  They all loved the way the chocolate slides when you pull the ribbon.

Lastly they made a card, because you can’t give a gift without a card!  The base is Sahara Sand and it has been stamped with the Sanded Background using Sahara Sand ink.  The Night of Navy card has been embossed using the Square Lattice Folder.  They stamped the sailing ship from the Seaworthy Stampset using Night of Navy ink onto Very Vanilla card and attached a Marina Mist mat.  The image panel was added to the card using dimensionals.  I printed the greeting for  them onto Very Vanilla card and they punched it out using the Word Window Punch.  They added a Modern Label mat punched from Marina Mist card.  The children all placed their images and greeting according to their own artistic preference.

Here they all are at the end of the class.  Children’s classes are a lot of fun because they love using all the tools and they love having something to show off and take home.

Bye for now, Kris.
