A Hostess Gift

August 15, 2011

Yesterday I held a workshop for a lovely lady (Hi Anu) where some of the guests had never stamped before.  It was a lovely afternoon, with lots of fun and creating.  I like to make something special as a thank you for holding a workshop and I thought I would share the gift I made for Anu.

I created a boxed set of 4 cards using the retiring Hostess Set Punch Potpourri.   I used the Quick Box by Gwen pattern from The Three Sisters blog (free to join).  I have used this box before.  It is ideal to hold up to 6 cards depending on the embellishment or a great box to hand deliver a card that is bulky and not suitable to post.

I constructed the box from Whisper White card and added Whisper White panels to the lower front of the box and the back of the box which have been embossed using the Vintage Wallpaper Embossing Folder. I cut a narrow strip of Island Indigo cardstock and punched one edge with the Scallop Trim Border Punch and attached it to the inside of the front of the box flap.  I stamped the bird from Punch Potpourri onto Whisper White card using Island Indigo ink and punched it out using the Two Step Bird Punch and added a wing punched from Island Indigo card.  (Island Indigo is one of the new In-Colours to be released with the new catalogue on the 1st September.)  I stamped the flowers from Punch Potpourri onto Whisper White card using Calypso Coral ink (another new In-Colour) and then punched them  out using the Boho Blossom Punch.  The leaves were punched from Lucky Limeade card (new In-Colour) using the Two Step Bird Punch.  I attached these pieces to the right hand side of the front flap and stamped “A Gift for You” from the Bring on the Cake stampset.    I actually did the stamping and attached all of the decorative pieces before assembling the box.  The last addition were some Clear Rhinestone brads to the centre of the flowers and I also added a small one to the bird to represent an eye.

The cards were put together similarly to the box.  I used Whisper White card for the base and added an embossed Whisper White panel to the lower card front.  I used a different embossing folder for each card – Petals -A-Plenty, Vintage Wallpaper, Finial Press and Perfect Polka Dots.  The bird, flowers and leaves are made in exactly the same way as for the box front.  The greeting for each card was from the Sincere Salutations stampset and I used 4 different ones – Best Wishes, Birthday Wishes, Get Well Soon and Thinking of You.

This shows a close up of the bird and you can see the Basic Rhinestones and the embossing.

I will be really sorry to see this set retire at the end of the month.  I have used it many times to create some really gorgeous cards and 3D items.

If you would like to receive a gift made especially for you, then contact me (krismac8@bigpond.com) and we can arrange a date for your workshop.

Bye for now, Kris.
