Satin Ribbon Hair Decorations

September 23, 2011

I used up some of my retired Satin Ribbon in Daffodil Delight and Night of Navy to decorate some hair elastics.  These two colours happen to be the colours for the school my granddaughter Abi attends so she will get lots of use from these.

The first instructions I read for these rosettes said to snip into the 5/8″ Satin Ribbon about every inch then you had to trim the ribbon to get a rounded effect.  However, I found some instructions somewhere that said you could run the ribbon through the Big Shot using the large scallop image on the Tasetful Trim Die, so that is what I did.  I cut 4 lengths of ribbon for each rosette.  The next thing you have to do is use your Heat Gun to make the ribbon kind of melt and give a petal shape.  I cut a 1 3/4″ circle from a Sticky Sheet using the Circles #2 Originals Die and removed the white backing and attached it to some white felt and trimmed around the circle.  I removed the orange  backing and then starting at the outside attached the straight edge of the ribbon moving around the circle and towards the middle, adding a new strip of ribbon as necessary.  I attached a Daffodil Delight button from the Brights Designer Buttons to the Night of Navy rosettes and a Night of Navy button from the Regals Designer Buttons to the Daffodil Delight rosettes.  Then I used a needle and some Linen thread to sew through the button and around the elastic bands 3 or 4 times and then tied off the ends with a knot.  I think these are so cute and I know Abi will love them.  Now I just have to make some in pretty colours for my other 3 granddaughters.

Bye for now, Kris.
