Noah’s Birthday

May 11, 2017

My grandson Noah celebrated his 10th birthday yesterday.  He is growing up so fast! He loves dinosaurs as does my other grandson, so I decided to use that as the theme for his card.  I also wanted to try a Pop Up and Twist card and with the help of some instructions of my friend Joyce and watching a video, I was able to create a card I am happy with.

The base of my card is A4 Thick Whisper White and I added a layer of Basic Black card to the front.  I stamped the dinosaur solid images from the No Bones About It stamp set onto the card front using Crumb Cake ink.  I stamped the skeleton image of the dinosaurs over the top using Soft Suede ink.  I stamped the foot print image across the card using Soft Suede ink.  I stamped the long leaf image onto the card front using Wild Wasabi, sometimes stamping without re-inking.  I stamped the medium leaf using Delightful Dijon ink and the small leaf using Pear Pizzazz ink.  Once everything was stamped, I sponged Crumb Cake ink across the foot prints and then used Pear Pizzazz ink to sponge over the leaves to fill in the gaps.  The stamped panel is attached to the Basic Black card.  Inside the card I used a couple of pieces of Urban Underground Specialty Designer Series Paper to cover the mechanism to make the pop up but I left the bottom half of the lower panel free for me to write a message.

There are four panels on the inside of the card and each one is decorated similarly.  The two greetings from the No Bones About It stamp set were stamped using Memento Tuxedo Black ink.  The leaves were stamped around the greetings using Wild Wasabi, Delightful Dijon and Pear Pizzazz inks.  The edges are sponged using Pear Pizzazz ink.  The panels are attached to Basic Black card before being attached to the pop up.  The dinosaurs are stamped using Crumb Cake and Soft Suede ink.  I stamped the large dots using Soft Suede ink and the small dots using Crumb Cake ink below the dinosaurs.  I stamped the leaves above the dinosaurs using the same colours as the other panels.  I sponged the edges of the bottom of the card using Crumb Cake ink and the edges of the top of the card using Pear Pizzazz ink.  These panels are also attached to Basic Black card before being attached to the pop up.

I wanted to add a small envelope with some money and didn’t want it to escape easily so I made a belly band to wrap around the card.  I used the same technique, stamping the footprints and the leaves and did some more sponging.  The stamped card is attached to Basic Black card.  To cover the join in the belly band I stamped the greeting from the Suite Sentiments stamp set onto Whisper White card using Memento Tuxedo Black ink and cut it out using one of the circle Stitched Shapes Framelits Dies.  I attached the greeting to a Basic Black scalloped circle cut using one of the Layering Circles Framelits Dies.

I love how this card turned out.  It is very busy but I think it carries the theme of the dinosaurs living in thick vegetation.  Noah loved the card as well – his words “your clever Nanny”.  High praise indeed!

I’d love to hear what you think.

Bye for now,

Kris
