True Friend

Yesterday on my Facebook Live I shared how to create a floating gate fold card. Boy are these fun to make. I watched a video by Dawn Griffith but changed the dimensions to suit our A4 card. These cards have been around for a long time but this is the first time I have ever attempted them. Todays card uses Thick Basic White for the card base. I scored a standard 21cm x 14.8cm card base along the 21cm length at 5.3cm and 15.7cm. The trick to making the card work is to make sure that the outside edges meet perfectly in the centre when folded and make sure to give a really nice clean fold using your bone folder.

Once folded I cut one of the Blackberry Bliss patterns from the Dandy Garden 6″ x 6″ Designer Series Paper into panels for the card front. I attached the Designer Series Paper to Blackberry Bliss card and then the two front panels. I cut Blackberry Bliss using the largest rectangle from the Stitched So Sweetly Dies and attached a panel of Basic White which I embossed using the Painted Texture 3D Embossing Folder.

I punched the butterflies from the Dandy Garden Designer Series Paper using the Dragonflies Punch. I curled the wings and attached them to the embossed Basic White card using dimensionals under the wings and glue dots in the centre of the body. I stamped the greeting from the Dragonfly Garden stamp set onto Basic White card using Blackberry Bliss ink. I cut out the greeting using the Layering Ovals Dies and attached it to a Blackberry Bliss scalloped oval cut using the same dies. I trimmed the right hand edge straight before attaching it to the image panel. The image panel is attached to the card front using Tear & Tape underneath the left hand side only. To decorate the centre inside panel, I embossed Basic White card using the Painted Texture 3D Embossing Folder and attached it to Blackberry Bliss card. I attached Basic White card to Blackberry Bliss card to decorate the two outside panels. I cut the card mechanisms from Basic White card as well. To create the floating panels, I embossed Basic White card using the Painted Texture 3D Embossing Folder. The panels are attached to Blackberry Bliss card and then the mechanism. Once more I punched the dragonflies from the Dandy Garden Designer Series Paper using the Dragonflies Punch. This time I attached the dragonflies flat to the embossed card.
I am having so much fun creating this fancy fold and have one more variation to share with you tomorrow. If you haven’t tried creating one, then you really must!
Bye for now,
Kris
