A Birthday Gift

October 15, 2011

I made this gift for one of my downline who celebrated a birthday this week (Happy Birthday Shirley).  I have another downline celebrating her birthday today (Happy Birthday Jenny).

I found a tutorial by Sandy Hancock to create a box which uses the Scallop Square Bigz Clear Die for the lid.  I thought this was a terribly clever idea and used it to make this little gift box.  I created the box which fits onto an A4 sheet of card.  My base card is Melon Mambo and I have added pieces of the Flirtatious Specialty Paper.  I created my accents by cutting two of the doilies from the large laser cut sheet in this Designer Paper and using the white side.  I punched 3 1 3/4″ circle scallops from Melon Mambo card and used my bone folder to distress each one until I could separate them into two layers.  I scrunched each one into a tight ball and then opened them out, stacked them onto a brad (any brad any colour because you don’t see it once the flower is made) and scrunched each layer again up and around the brad.  Then I opened the layers again, used Mini Glue Dots to attach it to the centre of the laser cut doily and then used Mini Glue Dots to attach one flower to the front of the box and one to the lid.  I used Whisper White 5/8″ Organza Ribbon to create a little handle.

I punched a strip of Melon Mambo card stock using the Lace Ribbon Border and attached this behind a strip of Flirtatious Specialty Designer Paper and then added it to Pretty in Pink  card stock.   I stamped ‘happy birthday” from the Happiest Birthday Wishes stampset using Melon Mambo ink.  I wrapped this piece with Whisper White 5/8″ Organza Ribbon and tied a knot.  This whole piece was then attached to the scored and folded Melon Mambo card base.  I created the flower the same way as for the box, however I used a different laser cut doily as the backing.

Since this card is for someone special I decorated the inside of the card.   I stamped a piece of Whisper White card using the Delicate Doilies Stampset.  The large image is in Melon Mambo ink and the smaller image in Pretty in Pink ink.  I stamped the greeting from the On Your Birthday stampset using Melon Mambo ink.

Of course no box would be complete without a few chocolates.

You can see inside the box and how the handle keeps the lid attached to the box.  The Scallop Square Bigx Clear Die is scored at 7/8″ on each side, cut up to the score line on two sides and then assembled using Sticky Strip.  Such an ingenious idea.

Sandy has another tutorial for this box on her blog, so don’t forget to check them both out.

Bye for now, Kris.
