A Quick Tutorial

June 23, 2011

I shared this brooch on my Facebook page today and had a request for a tutorial so I thought I would share with everyone.

I remade the brooch for the tutorial today but I  attached two layers of satin with iron on adhesive so that I could have two “shiny” sides on my flowers.

I cut the largest flower on my Island Floral Die using my double sided satin.  In fact I cut 4 flowers at a time.  Once cut I folded as you can see in the photo.  I want them to be folded so that the petals do not line up.

Then I fold the flower again so that it is in quarters.  I use the central hole which is made when cutting the flowers as a quide for my folding.

You need to take a needle and thread and sew the flower across the folds near the end.  Use the photo as a guide.

You keep adding flowers, sewing across the corner and attaching each flower to the flower before it.

Continue adding flowers until you have enough to make it nice and full.  I used six flowers for this brooch.  Once you have added the last flower you need to attach it to the first flower to complete the circle.

I attached my flowers to a brooch back which I purchased at Spotlight, but you could attach it to a hat, headband, clip or even an elastic.

Here is the completed brooch.  I think they are so pretty.  I know my granddaughters are going to love them.

Here is one I made from felt and attached to a hair elastic.

I hope that you can follow my tutorial and that you have fun making these.

Bye for now, Kris.

A Tissue Box

June 23, 2011

I watched a video tutorial by  Dee which showed how to make a cover for travel sized tissue packs and thought it was a cute idea.

I followed Dee’s instructions and made my cover using Basic Black Cardstock and Newsprint Designer Series Paper.  I made my flower by cutting Real Red Cardstock using the Island Floral Die.  I cut one of the large flowers and one of the small flowers.  I also punched one flower from Real Red cardstock using my Fancy Flower Punch.  I cut the leaves using Old Olive cardstock and the Island Floral Die.  I used my bone folder to separate each of the flowers and leaves into two pieces.  I scrunched them and then adhered them onto a Vintage Brad making sure that all the layers were staggered.  I attached the flower to my cover using Mini Glue Dots.

After I made the cover I discovered that it was too large for the travel sized packs of tissues that I had, so I altered the dimensions and made a smaller one.

Again I used Basic Black cardstock and Newsprint Designer Series Paper, but this time I cut the flowers using the Birds and Blooms Sizzlit 4 pack.  I cut one each of the two largest flowers on the dies.  I also cut the large leaf from this die set using Old Olive card (3).  The flowers were separated and scrunched and again layered onto a Vintage brad (Did I tell you how much I love these brads?).

The leaves are attached to the flower and the flower to the cover using Mini Glue Dots.

These are so cute and small enough to adorn your desk at work.

Bye for now, Kris.

An Award and an Apology

June 21, 2011

Some time ago Bev Watt passed a Liebster Award to me.  Bev and I have become friends through our online connections although we have never really met.

So  let me say thanks to Bev for passing me this award and also apologise to her for not acting on it sooner.

The idea behind the award is to draw attention to blogs with less than 300 followers.

So here are three blogs for you to visit.

Vicky – I have been “talking” to Vicky online for a while now and although we live fairly close we have not had the opportunity to meet.  I love her work and I am sure she will inspire you as she does me.

Shirley – my downline and one very talented lady.  Shirley’s work is really gorgeous and I am lucky to have her as part of my team and also my friend.

Gwen – Gwen is a very talented papercrafter and is always inspiring me and challenging me to move outside of my comfort zone.  I love her work and I am so glad  to have her as my friend.

I am lucky that my job – being a Stampin’ Up! Demonstrator – has given me the opportunity to meet these wonderful women.

Bye for now, Kris.

Scrappin’ Ethan’s Birthday

June 21, 2011

I thought the scrapbook sketch challenge at Sudsol this week would suit photos from Ethan’s Bowling Birthday Party.

I started with a Night of Navy 12 x 12″ page and rolled it with the Spot On Jumbo Wheel using Night of Navy ink.  I added my journalling to an A4 Sahara Sand page and then added my photos.  I used Real Red cardstock and the Timeless Type Junior Alphabet to create my title.  I added my photos and then added my “bowling balls” across the bottom of the page, actually the sketch called for circles and I thought that they would be cute as bowling balls.   I used my circle scissors to cut the large circles and my 1 3/4″ , 1 1/4″  and 1″ circle punches to create the “bowling balls” from Real Red, Garden Green and Night of Navy cardstock.

I love how this page turned out and I know that Ethan will enjoy looking at it as well.

Bye for now, Kris.

Happy Anniversary Mum and Dad

June 19, 2011

Today is my Mum and Dad’s 57th Wedding Anniversary.  Congratulations to you both – its an awesome milestone.

I made this card following a tutorial I purchased from Class in a Flashif you haven’t had a look at these tutorials then you must because they are fabulous.  The colours are Baja Breeze, Crumb Cake and Early Expresso.  The stampset used is Always and it is perfect for this type of card.  The bird is actually stamped onto Vellum cardstock using Versamark and then heat embossed using White embossing powder and mounted behind a cut-out window.     The heart image was embossed onto Crumb Cake card using White embossing powder and then the centre of the heart was cut out, leaving this gorgeous frame.  The Always in Bloom standard wheel was also used on the top section of the card, again wheeled using Versamark ink and embossed with White embossing powder.  I used my computer to add the greeting to Whisper White card which is mounted over and under the heart frame.  The border of the Early Expresso card is punched using the Scallop Trim Border punch and the ribbon is Early Expresso 5/8″ Satin.

I hope that they have a wonderful day.

Bye for now, Kris.

Happy Birthday Emma

June 17, 2011

Today is my youngest daughters birthday and I thought I would share the card I made for her with you.

This is the front of the card.  I have used a circle of Basic Black cardstock and added a circle of Whisper White card which I sponged using Real Red ink.  I stamped the heart  and flower images from the Punch Potpourri stampset onto Whisper White card using Real Red ink and punched them out using the Heart Extra Large Punch and the  Boho Blossoms Punch.   I sponged the edges of all of the pieces before attaching them to the Whisper White Circle.  I used my paper piercing mat and paper piercing tool to round the centres of the flower and give them a slight “cup” shape.  Lastly I  added Basic Rhinestones to the centres of the flowers for a little bling.

This is the inside of the card.  I cut Basic Black card using the Scallop Circle Die to form the base of the card.  The Whisper White circle again has the edges sponged with Real Red ink.  I stamped the heart, flowers and bird onto Whisper White card using Real Red ink and then sponged the edges of all the pieces using Real Red ink.  They were all punched using the Boho Blossoms punch, Heart Extra Large  and Two Step Bird Punch.  I also punched a wing from Real Red cardstock using the Two Step Bird punch and sponged the edges with Real Red ink.   As this is the inside of the card I added all of the pieces flat to the Whisper White circle.

Here is the card fully open – its called a Telescoping Circle card – for obvious reasons.  I watched this video by Barb Mullikin which explained how to assemble all the pieces.  I used Medium Clear Rhinestones to attach all of my pieces together and a piece of Real Red 5/8″ grosgrain ribbon to  use to open the card.

These are really fun cards to make and the video explains really clearly how to assemble all of the pieces and also gives circle sizes.

I hope that Emma has a fantastic day.

Bye for now, Kris.

A Christmas card!!

June 15, 2011

I am trying to get some designs ready for a Christmas Stamp-A-Stack and the sketch challenge at Technostamper just seemed to work really well.

I started with a base of Cherry Cobbler and added a layer of Very Vanilla card which has been embossed using the Petals-a-Plenty Embossing Folder.  I added a piece of Jolly Holiday Designer Series Paper over the bottom section of the card which I sponged using Cherry Cobbler ink.  Next I cut a Cherry Cobbler scallop circle using the largest scallop circle on the Scallop Circle #2 die.  I cut a Very Vanilla Circle approximately 3″ round and stamped three of the decorations from the Tree Trimmings stampset using Cherry Cobbler ink.  I also stamped Very Merry from the Short and Sweet stampset inking with my Cherry Cobbler Stampin’ Write Marker so that I could stamp the words individually.

Pretty simple but one that can be reproduced fairly easily.  This one might make the Stamp-A-Stack.

Bye for now, Kris.

You might need sunglasses

June 14, 2011

because the colours in this card are certainly bright.   I found an old sketch at Clean & Simple which I liked (135) and had a little “play”.

I started with Very Vanilla card and used a plate to shape the bottom with a slight curve.  I punched a narrow piece of Daffodil Delight card using the Scallop Trim Border Punch and snipped at regular intervals making sure not to cut into the border so that I could attach it behind the Very Vanilla card.  I then attached a piece of Pacific Point card to complete the front.  I added a strip of Melon Mambo Designer Paper from the Brights Designer Series Paper Patterns Stack.  I used my Big Shot, Daffodil Delight card and the Island Floral Die to  cut one large and 1 small flower from the die.  I also punched Daffodil Delight card using the Fancy Flower Punch.  I separated each of the flowers into 2 pieces and sponged the edges with Daffodil Delight ink.  I scrunched each flower layer and then stacked them together onto a Large Clear Rhinestone Brad.  I also cut one of the leaves from the Island Floral Die using Old Olive card.  The leaves were separated, sponged using Old Olive ink, scrunched and attached behind the flower.  I used dimensionals to attach the completed flower to the front of the card.  I stamped “congratulations” from the Occasional Greetings stampset onto the card front using Pacific Point card.

I quite like the result.  I’d love to hear what you think.

Bye for now, Kris.

Patchwork – maybe

June 13, 2011

I tried my hand at the sketch challenge at Splitcoast Stampers and one of the panels was a kind of patchwork.

I used Basic Black for my base card and added a layer of Whisper White which I embossed using the Framed Tulips Embossing Folder.  I covered a piece of Whisper White card with 3 pieces of  paper from the Hostess Designer Series Pack and attached it to a Basic Black mat.  I stamped the image from the Friends 24-7 stampset using Black Stazon ink onto Whisper White card.  I coloured the image using my Blender Pen, Pear Pizzazz and Poppy Parade ink.  The image panel also has a Basic Black mat and it attached to the card front  using dimensionals to make it stand out even more.

I actually like the way this card has turned out.   Let me know your thoughts.

Bye for now, Kris.

Black and White

June 12, 2011

I have been busy with visitors and babysitting this past week and haven’t had much time to make any cards.  I checked out the challenges at Stamping 411 and Just Add Ink and decided to combine the two.  So this card is made using the sketch at Stamping 411 and the colour challenge at Just Add Ink.

My base card is Whisper White and I added a layer of Basic Black.  I cut two sets of leaves from Basic Black card using the Little Leaves Sizzlet and attached them to a layer of Whisper White.  I punched four 1 3/4″ scallop circles from Whisper White and used my bone folder to separate the layers.  I sponged the edges of each separated piece lightly with Basic Black ink before assembling my flower.  I cut a length of Basic Black 5/8″ Satin Ribbon and pulled a thread to gather the ribbon.  I attached one end to the back of a Basic Black 1 3/4″ Scallop Circle and the other end behind the Whisper White card.  I attached my Whisper White flower over the Basic Black scallop circle using mini glue dots.  The whole piece was then attached to the card front.

I can’t say that I am overly excited by this card, I think it needs something.  Maybe I should just start again.  What do you think?

Bye for now, Kris.
