A Case Challenge

May 11, 2011

This week at Sudsol there is a challenge to case a 6 x 6″ scrap page from the Stampin’ Success magazine.  I just received my grandchildren’s school photos and the sketch was perfect for them.

This is Abi’s page.  I flipped the sketch over so that I could mirror the two pages.  I have used Confetti Cream, Night of Navy and Daffodil Yellow card.  I used stars as my embellishment and added a Filigree Brad to the centre.

This is Ethan’s page.  The only thing different is that I used an Antique Brad in the centre of his star.  The colours for the sketch are inspired by the children’s school colours, Navy and Yellow.

Simple pages but beautiful photos and because the children  are growing up so quickly I will treasure the memories they inspire.

Bye for now, Kris.

A new sketch

May 10, 2011

Which means another week has flown by.  I saw the new sketch at Stamping 411 on Saturday but have only just had time to play.

I started with a base card of Marina Mist.  I added a layer of Whisper White card which has been embossed using the  Elegant Bouquet Embossing Folder.  I also added a strip of Early Expresso which has been punched using the Scallop Trim Border punch.  I wrapped the Whisper White card with Marina Mist 5/8″  Satin Ribbon before attaching to the base card.  I pulled a thread in the ribbon to gather it up a little on the left hand side before it was attached.  I stamped A Flower For You using Tangerine Tango ink onto Whisper White card and punched it out using the Fancy Flower punch.  I added an Early Expresso 1 3/8″ circle and a Whisper White 1 1/4″ circle  (embossed using the Perfect Polka Dots Embossing Folder) to the centre of the flower.  Then I added a Marina Mist button which has some Whisper White 1/4″ Grosgrain ribbon threaded through it.  I punched Tangerine Tango card using the Boho Blossoms Punch to create the second flower.  I separated the layers and scrunched them a little after I added the Silver Brad to the centre.

The flowers are attached over some Pear Pizzazz leaves cut using the Little Leaves sizzlit.  I love the dimension on this card and love the ribbon trim.  I will have to do this more often.

I’d love to know what you think.

Bye for now, Kris.

Happy Mother’s Day

May 8, 2011

Happy Mother’s Day.  I hope that all you are all spending time with the ones you love.

I thought I would share this card with you which is for my Mother.  I attended a class at Gwen’s and she taught us how to make 3 different versions of a twisted easel.  This one has 3 panels and is just gorgeous.  Gwen  is going to share the instructions for these cards on The Three Sisters website, so if you haven’t already joined (which is free) then you should.  I absolutely love this card and hope that my Mum does too.

Bye for now, Kris.

Happy Birthday Noah

May 7, 2011

My grandson Noah is celebrating his 4th birthday today and this is the card I made for him.

To create my balloon I stamped the image from the A Little Treat stampset using Tempting Turquoise ink onto Whisper White card.  I punched two Wide Ovals from Tangerine Tango card and added them to the top of the image.  I punched 3 “clouds” from Tempting Turquoise card using the Build-a-Cupcake punch (it’s the icing part of the cupcake) and attached them around the top of the card.  Then I embossed this piece using the Square Lattice Embossing Folder.  Next I punched two Real Red Wide Ovals and added them over the Tangerine Tango wide ovals.  I also punched one wide oval from Tempting Turquoise card and embossed it with the Elegant Lines Embossing folder and attached it over the Real Red  wide ovals.  I stamped Happy and Birthday  from the Create-A-Cupcake stampset onto Whisper White card using Real Red ink.  I punched each word separately using my Word Window Punch.  I then layered them onto Real Red card cut using the Modern Label Punch.  I attached them to the embossed Whisper White card and trimmed them off square with the edge.  Lastly I attached this whole piece to a folded Tangerine Tango base card.

I think it turned out kind of cute and hopefully he will like it.

Bye for now, Kris.

A Mother’s Day card

May 5, 2011

This card is made using another tutorial from Laura Lupe.  It is the same fold as the card yesterday but this time it’s landscape instead of portrait.

I cut my Very Vanilla card according to Laura’s directions and then cut some of the Lap of Luxury Designer Paper to decorate each panel.  To decorate my main panel I used the large floral image from the Just Believe Stampset which I inked using my Old Olive and Concord Crush Stampin’ Write markers and stamped onto Very Vanilla card.  I used my 1 3/4″ circle to punch out a portion of the image and then I used my computer to add the greeting using the RGB colours for Concord Crush.  I added a Pretty in Pink 2 3/8″ scallop circle and attached it to the central panel.  I inked the flowers from the framed image in the Just Believe stampset using the same markers and stamped onto Very Vanilla card and punched them out using the 1 1/4″ circle punch.   I attached them to a Concord Crush 1 3/8″ circle and a Pretty in Pink 1 3/4″ scallop circle.  Each of these were attached to the side panels.  I tied Pretty in Pink 1/4″ grosgrain ribbon around the bottom panel and added a double bow.

I like both of these folds and will definitely be using them again.

Bye for now, Kris.

A Fancy Birthday Card

May 3, 2011

I found a tutorial on Laura Lupe’s blog for a Funky Fold Card which I followed to make a birthday card for my Mother-in-Law.

I used Night of Navy for the base card which I scored and cut according to Laura’s directions.  What I really loved about Laura’s tutorial was that I could make this card from an A4 sheet, most of the other tutorials I have seen use 12 x 12″ card.  The Whisper White pieces on the side and bottom panel have been embossed using the Petals-A-Plenty embossing folder.  I cut my flowers from Daffodil Delight card  using the Floral Fusion sizzlit and did my usual trick of separating the layers and scrunching them to get all that fantastic dimension.  I used Basic Black brads in the centre of the flowers.  The leaves are cut from Old Olive card using the Little Leaves sizzlit.  I inked the greeting from the Perfect Punches stampset using Night of Navy ink and stamped on Whisper White card.   The greeting is punched using the Wide Oval Punch and layered onto an Old Olive tag cut using on of the Lots of Tags sizzlits

I absolutely love the way this fold  makes  the central image really stand out from the rest of the card.

I need to get this in the mail if she is to get it for her birthday.

Bye for now, Kris.

A Hostess Bliss Box

April 29, 2011

I got the tutorial for this box from the Inkspiration 4U Spring Summer Collection.  It is called a Bliss Box.  I made this one for my Hostess tonight (Hi Sharron).

I made my box from Concord Crush and Whisper White card.  The Whisper White card has been embossed using the Petals-A-Plenty Embossing Folder.  The recessed section in the lid has been decorated with some Concord Crush Flowers which were cut using the  Floral Fusion sizzlit.  I have described in previous posts how I make these flowers, so I won’t go into the details here.  I cut some leaves from Pear Pizzazz card using the Little Leaves Sizzlet, add some ome Clear Rhinestone Brads and the box is decorated.

The box opens like a Pizza Box and here you can see that the tutorial even gives instructions to cover the recessed section in the top of the box – so neat.  You can see the cards nestled inside the box.

I made 6 cards 3 1/2″ x 3 1/2″  to go inside the box.   I cut leaves from Pear Pizzazz card  using the Little Leaves sizzlit.  I attached the leaves and the largest flower cut from Concord Crush using the Floral Fusion Sizzlit  to a Whisper White Square 3 1/4′ x 3 1/4″, then I embossed the square using the Square Lattice Embossing Folder.  I stamped the greetings from the Sincere Salutations stampset using Concord Crush ink onto Whisper White card and punched them out using the Scallop Oval punch.  I layered the greetings onto a Concord Crush Scallop Oval cut using the Movers & Shapers Punch Windows.  I attached the  3d flowers to the card using Mini Glue Dots.

I love making something special for my Hostesses, so if you would love a gift like this one, contact me and we can work out when you can hold your workshop.

Bye for now, Kris.

A post-it note

April 28, 2011

Tami Black issued a challenge on Late Night Stampers to create something with bits and pieces you have lying around.  Now this is something my friend Gwen is always talking about – she has an Another Day Box.  So inspired by both these wonderful ladies I decided to make a Post-It note holder.

I used a template that I found on The Three Sisters blog to create a post-it note holder.  I cut the cover from Sahara Sand cardstock and decorated it with little bits and pieces that I found in a small bucket I keep on my desk.  I embossed the lower front section using the Elegant Bouquet embossing folder.  The strip of paper on the top front section was in my little bucket and is a piece of cardstock decorated with one of the images from Extreme Elements in Real Red.  I also found a piece of Basic Black 5/8″ Satin Ribbon and wrapped it around the card scrap before attaching it to the front of the holder.   Next I found a couple of sets of leaves punched using the Two Step Bird Punch and a Real Red flower – also in my bucket.  I closed the front with a half velcro dot.  I added the little Real Red butterfly (from the Beautiful Butterflies sizzlit) to the bottom right hand corner.  I think it turned out really pretty and only took me about 5 minutes to make.  Now I can have something to write on in my purse all the time.

Bye for now, Kris.
