A Christmas Sneak Peak

November 16, 2010

I’ve mentioned before that we have a new Summer Mini catalogue being released on the 1st December and you did see a little bit of the new crochet trim in my last post, but now I am going to share a card I made using the New Scallop Square Bigz Clear Die.

I love this weeks sketch on Splitcoast Stampers and decided to use it to complete a card for this week’s challenge at Just Add Ink, which is Just Add Christmas.

I started with Very Vanilla card which I scored and folded and then cut using the Big Shot and the  Scallop Square Bigz Clear Die, making sure that I placed my fold below the top edge of the die.  I sponged the edges with Cherry Cobbler ink and then added a layer of Cherry Cobbler card.  I used two pieces of Holly Jolly Designer Series Paper, which I have layered onto Old Olive card.  I stamped Dasher using Early Expresso ink onto Very Vanilla card and layered this onto Old Olive card as well.  I attached the image panel to the card using dimensionals.  I inked the word “joy” from one of the stamps in my Many Merry Messages stampset using a Cherry Cobbler Stampin Write Marker and stamped it onto Very Vanilla card.  I punched it out using the 3/4″ circle punch and layered it onto an 1″ circle of Old Olive card.  I have attached the circles to the image panel.

Inside the card I stamped the greeting from Many Merry Messages using Cherry Cobbler ink onto Very Vanilla card.  I added the swirl from Season of Joy using Old Olive ink and sponged the edges using Cherry Cobbler ink.  I added a layer of Cherry Cobbler card and attached it inside the card.  I only have to add my greeting and I have another card ready to post.   You can see that I have sponged the scallops on the inside of the card with Cherry Cobbler ink as well.

I love this new die and I will come back soon and show you another project which I made using this die.

Don’t forget to contact me to find out how you can get a copy of the fantastic Summer Mini.

Bye for now, Kris.

Friday night workshop

November 15, 2010

I thought I would pop on and share the projects we made last Friday night at Sharron’s workshop.

Sharron has had the Milk Carton die for a while and wanted me to demonstrate some of the ways to use it.  So I demonstrated this cute little double milk carton carrier that I found on Elizabeth Hurst’s blog.  I used Old Olive card for the Milk Carton and stamped it with my So Swirly  jumbo wheel using Old Olive ink.  After assembling the box, I added the flower from Season of Joy which was stamped in Cherry Cobbler onto Whisper White card and cut out.  I also stamped one flower using Old Olive ink, cut it out and then cut it in half to add leaves to my flower.  These were attached using mini glue dots and I also added a small Clear Rhinestone to the centre of the flower.   Lastly we added a clip from the Clips Assortment to close the carton.

The box is Cherry Cobbler cardstock (all the dimensions for this are on Elizabeth’s blog).  I used a strip of striped Designer Paper from the Jolly Holiday series to wrap about the box and added a label cut using Whisper White card, the Big Shot and the Lots of Tags sizzlet.  I used my Cherry Cobbler marker to ink the Merry Christmas (from Season of Joy)  and stamped it onto the tag, which is attached to the box to cover the join in the designer series paper.  The last touch was a piece of Old Olive Satin ribbon tied through the handle of the carrier.

The second project you will recognise as the same as the ones I did with my granddaughters the other day.  This one actually has chocolates and some ribbon, but I decided to change the ribbon on the night to the 1/8″ white taffeta and I made a loop at the back before tying the bow so that it could hang on the tree.

Sharron loved the projects and I was really happy to show her how to use her Milk Carton die.  Sharron is vision impaired and I am stunned at how clever she is and what amazing things she does with paper and ink.

The last project was this card which everyone made.  The card has a base of Cherry Cobbler to which we added a layer of Jolly Holiday Designer Series Paper.   We added 3 silver brads to the lower right hand corner of the designer paper before attaching it to the card front.   The whisper white piece on the left was run through the Big Shot using the Vintage Wallpaper embossing folder, layered onto Cherry Cobbler card and attached to the card front.  We stamped the tree from Season of Joy onto Whisper White card using Old Olive ink and layered it onto Old Olive and Cherry Cobbler card before attaching it to the card front using dimensionals.  We added a few Clear Rhinestones for just the right amount of “bling” on the tree.  Sharron also loved the rhinestones because they already have adhesive attached and she found them quite easy to add to her card.

If you would like me to come to your home and show you how to get the most from your Stampin’ Up! products (and earn some FREE product as well) then contact me (k.mcintosh1@optusnet.com.au) to discuss.

A lovely Christmas card

November 14, 2010

Stamping 411 challenge this week is a sketch challenge and I decided to make a Christmas card as I still need to make a lot to send out this year.

I love the single tree from the Lovely as a Tree stampset, it reminds me of a traditional Christmas Tree.  My base card is Real Red and I have applied Real Red ink using the direct to paper technique.  I love the way this adds random texture to the card.  I added a piece of Always Artichoke card which I ran through the Big Shot using an embossing folder which will be available to purchase with the release of the Summer Mini on December 1 – it’s called Square Lattice and I love it.  I’v added a piece of Chantilly 1/2″ crochet trim which is also being released in the Summer Mini.  The tree image is stamped onto Very Vanilla card using Always Artichoke ink and the edges sponged with the same ink.  A layer of Always Artichoke card and another of Very Vanilla and then it is attached to the card front using dimensionals.  I stamped “very merry” from the Short and Sweet Stampset onto Very Vanilla card using Always Artichoke ink and punched it out using the Word Window Punch.  I added it to a Modern Label punched from Always Artichoke card and then added another Very Vanilla Modern Label cut with the Movers and Shapers Modern Label Die using the Big Shot.  I followed a video tutorial by Teresa Payne which shows how to cut the individual shapes without cutting the whole card.

I decorated the inside of this card to match the front.  I stamped a message from the Level 3 Hostess Set Occasional Quotes using Real Red ink.  I stamped the tree image using Always Artichoke ink but stamping off twice before stamping onto the card, to give a more subdued effect.  I sponged the edges with Always Artichoke ink before layering onto Always Artichoke and Very Vanilla Card.  All I have to do now is write in it and it is ready to send off to someone special this Christmas.

I am very happy with the way this card has turned out and cannot wait to show you more of the new product from the Summer Mini.  Contact me to find out how to get your own copy of this new mini catalogue.

Bye for now, Kris.

A Box of Tags

November 14, 2010

I wanted to share with you the gift I made for my Hostess on Friday night (hi Sharron).

I got the idea for this box from Carla Brasher’s Twelve Weeks of Christmas Week 2 project.  Her box was divided into six to hold six different types of tags.  The tutorials are fantastic and easy to follow and they are all FREE.  Thanks so much Carla, I love what you do.  I have decored the front of my box  using Holly Jolly Designer Series Paper and the  Contempo Christmas stampset.  I added a bow using the 5/8″ Organza Ribbon which I think is just gorgeous.

I made 4 tags using the Big Shot and the Top Note Die.  I used Very Vanilla as the base card and added 1/2″ top notes to the tag after running it through the Big Shot and using 4 different embossing folders – Perfect Polka Dots, Vintage Wallpaper, Petals-a-Plenty and Finial Press.  I added different embellishments to the top by way of decoration (unfortunately I didn’t take individual photos – but you get the idea).  I added a Jumbo Pewter Brad and 1/8″ Old Olive Tafetta ribbon.  I cut some Whisper White 9 x 5.5cm folded to make 4.5 x 5.5cm tags (4 in total).  I stamped “Jingle all the Way” from the Christmas Classics stampset using Cherry Cobbler ink, punched a hole using the crop-a-dile and added some hemp twine.  The last little tag is Very Vanilla card punched using the Large Tag.  I stamped them using the swirl from Season of Joy and Old Olive ink which I stamped off first.  I inked the “to/from” part of the tag image from Cottage Garden using my Cherry Cobbler Stampin’ Write Marker and added it to the tag.  I attached them to Cherry Cobbler punched using the Extra Large Tag punch.  I punched a small hole using the crop-a-dile and added some linen thread.   I love the way this turned out and I am happy to say so did Sharron.

I think at this time of year this makes an excellent gift.  If you would like to receive a gift like this contact me (k.mcintosh1@optusnet.com.au) to discuss your workshop.

Bye for now, Kris.

A Big Shot Banner

November 13, 2010

I have had the Pennant Die for quite a while with the idea in mind of creating a banner to go over my sliding door for Christmas.

I bought my material as “fat quaters” from Spotlight and using the Big Shot and the Pennant Die cut out the small pennant using plain red material for the back, and alternating red and green for the front.  I also cut double sided iron on wadding to attach the front pennant to the back pennant.  I cut the scallops using some shimmery white material and used double sided iron on paper to attach them to the pennants.  I attached the plain red material to  the iron on double sided paper and then cut them using a sizzix alphabet die which I have had for a long time.  Once I had the individual pennants together, I used my sewing machine to sew around the edges to hold everything together.  I attached all the pennants to red bias binding 25mm wide and then hung it over the sliding door.

This picture shows a little more of the detail.   I love my Big Shot and keep on finding more and more ways to use it.  I have some more ideas for material and the Big Shot in mind and these include using a new die from the Summer Mini which begins on the 1st December.

My sewing skills are a little rusty, it’s a long time since I have done a lot of sewing but I feel some practice coming on.  I’d love to hear what you think of this idea.

Bye for now, Kris.

Christmas is Coming

November 12, 2010

My two granddaughters spent last Tuesday with me and helped me to make some mini milk cartons which I am going to use as decorations on the tree and also as a countdown to Christmas.

This is what we managed to achieve.  I had already cut the milk cartons out using the Big Shot and the Mini Milk Carton Die.   We used two combinations, Real Red/Garden Green and Cherry Cobbler/Old Olive.

The girls stamped them using the bauble and star from Christmas Classics.  I sponged them and punched out the window using the 1 1/4″ circle.  Then I assembled the boxes.  I inked the holly stamp from Christmas Classics using my Real Red/Garden Green Stampin’ Write markers and also my Cherry Cobbler/Old Olive Stampin’ Write markers and cut them out.  The girls attached the window sheet and then they cut the numbers using the Big Shot and the Timeless Type Junior Sizzlets.  All I need now is some chocolate to go inside and then I am going to tie them with 1/8″ taffeta ribbon so that they can be hung on the tree.  I only need another dozen or so to have enough.

Here is Elyssa hard at work.  For a 2 1/2 year old she shows amazing talent.  She is quite deliberate in her stamping, taking care not to stamp on top of the images and to go off the edges.

Here is Abigail hard at work.  At almost six she is starting to show real artistic talent.  She expressed the view the she liked the Real Red/ Garden Green combination much more than the Cherry Cobbler/Old Olive combination.  Abigail has already expressed the desire to be a Stampin’ Up! Demonstrator when she grows  up just like her Mum and her Nan.  God bless her, mmm… wonder when I can sign her up!

Well I’m off to get ready for a workshop tonight (hello Sharron & Lynda).

Bye for now, Kris.

Happy Birthday Jason

November 7, 2010

My son-in-law turned 30 last Friday and I thought I would show you the card I made for him.

I made a waterfall card and started with Pacific Point card.  The Whisper White layer has had Pacific Point ink applied direct to paper and then I ran it through the Big Shot with the Perfect Details Texturz Plate.  The images are all from the Party Hearty Stampset.  I used Old Olive, Rich Razzleberry, Pacific Point, Tangerine Tango and Real Red Stampin’ Write Markers directly onto the images  to colour them.  They are all stamped onto Whisper White card.

I love the way the images flip over…

and over…….

and over.

When I make these cards I actually attach my waterfall to a standard sized A5 folded card so that I can still enclose a personal message.

If you have never made one of these cards you really should try.  There is an excellent tutorial available on the Splitcoast Stampers website.

Bye for now, Kris.

A scrappy day

November 1, 2010

As you all know it was my granddaughter Jae’s birthday last week and I couldn’t resist scrapping this photo of her.

I used Basic Gray card cut to 6″ x 6″ and using Basic Gray ink randomly stamped the large flower from Vintage Vogue and then sponged the edges with the same ink.  I stamped the Melon Mambo card with the vine image from Vintage Vogue using Melon Mambo ink and again sponged the edges of the card with the same ink.  I coloured my Paper Daisy using a sponge and Melon Mambo ink and added an Antique Brad to the centre.  The flower has the dual purpose of embellishing the page and covering my grandsons feet.  I printed the words changing the colour to match the Melon Mambo ink and punched it out with the Oval Extra Large Punch.  I attached this to a tag cut using Melon Mambo card, the Big Shot and the Lots of Tags sizzlet dies.

I am a very simple scrapper and mostly do 6 x 6″ pages.  Sometimes I convert them to 12″ x 12″ but I like to let the photograph do most of the talking on my pages.  I actually need to do lots more scrapping as I am way behind.

Bye for now, Kris.

A Two Step Birthday

October 30, 2010

I love two step stamping, it is such a fun and fast way to get dimension on your stamped images.  This week I decided to use Fast & Fabulous to complete the Sudsol Sketch Challenge 55.  This is the sketch we had to use.

And this is my card

My base card is Melon Mambo and then I added a layer of Sahara Sand (the colour is way off in the photo but it is Sahara Sand) which I ran through the Big Shot using the Elegant Lines Embossing Folder.  I stamped the two-step single flower onto Whisper White card, firstly using Pretty in Pink and then the second stamp in Melon Mambo.  The Whisper White card is layered onto Melon Mambo Card.  I stamped “happy birthday” from Perfect Punches onto Whisper White card using Melon Mambo ink and punched it out using my Oval Extra Large punch.  I attached this to a Melon Mambo tag cut using the Big Shot and my Lots of Tags sizzlets.  The greeting is attached to the card using dimensionals.  This card is really pretty in real life and I am quite happy with the way it turned out.   I find that when I complete a sketch challenge the whole card comes together rather quickly as usually the sketch will suggest a stampset that will work with the layout. (Does that make sense?).  Anyway I find that my most successful creations start with a sketch and I have a whole book of them I have saved from various sources.  While relaxing in the evening, this is my most read book.

Bye for now, Kris.
