Saying Goodbye

August 28, 2012

The ladies at my Beachmere Class today are going to make this card using the Upsy Daisy stamp set.  I love this set and will be really sorry to see it retire – in only a few days now.

The greeting is stamped using Night of Navy ink onto Very Vanilla card and attached to scored and folded Night of Navy card.  The long edge of a strip of Night of Navy card is punched using the Eyelet Edge punch – also retiring and attached behind River Rock card which is embossed using the Perfect Polka Dots Embossing Folder.  The flower image is stamped using Rose Red ink onto Very Vanilla card and attached to a Night of Navy mat before being attached to the card front using dimensionals.

A simple card but I love the colours.  Remember you only have a couple of days to order these great products.

I’d love to hear what you think of this card.

Bye for now, Kris

Sunny Challenge 55/12

August 26, 2012

This week at Sunny Challenges and Creations it was Vicky’s turn to set the challenge.  She has given us another fantastic sketch and this time we can use it to make something Christmas.  Do you realise how quickly Christmas is approaching?

I embossed Whisper White card using the Petals-A-Plenty Embossing Folder.  I wrapped it with Real Red 1/4″ Grosgrain Ribbon and tied a knot.  This piece is attached to scored and folded Real Red card.  I stamped the swirl image from the Season of Joy stamp set twice onto Whisper White card using Garden Green ink.   I attached the image panel to Garden Green card and then to the card front using dimensionals.   I stamped the flower from the Season of Joy stampset onto Whisper White card using Real Red ink and cut it out.  I attached the flower between the swirl images and added some Basic Rhinestones for a little bling.  I stamped Merry Christmas from the same stamp set onto Whisper White card using Real Red ink and punched it using the Large Oval punch.  I attached the greeting to a Real Red Scallop Oval and then to the card front.  I used dimensionals under the left hand side so that it would sit over the image panel.

Sadly this is probably the last time I will use this set as it retires in only a few days.

Now for some more inspiration visit Gwen, Vicky and Christine, then when you have created your card, scrap page or 3d item, just visit Sunny Challenges and add it to Mr. Linky.  As Christmas is the time of year we send out the most cards, I am looking for a record number of entries this week.   If you haven’t time for anything else, at least joining this challenge will get you a little better prepared for the Christmas season.

Bye for now, Kris.

French Foliage

August 25, 2012

I am loving the inspiration that I get from Pinterest.  There are all sorts of amazing things being pinned by people with all sorts of different interests.  This card is a CASE of one that I saw recently, which was shared by Holly Melanson on Splitcoast Stampers.  You can see the original here.  (Holly if you have a blog let me know and I will add the link.)

My version is very similar, however, I changed one colour and the ribbon.  I inked up my “c” sized Clear Block using Crumb Cake ink and stamped onto the Whisper White card.  I stamped the background word image from the French Foliage randomly over the Whisper White card using Crumb Cake ink.  I stamped the two largest leaves from the same stamp set using Cherry Cobbler ink.  (My ink pad is one of the new foam pads which are being released with the new catalogue on the 1st September and they are just fantastic.  The pads give better coverage of the ink and they seem somehow “brighter”, I think that has something to do with the better coverage.)  I stamped the smaller leaf using Early Expresso ink and the round stamp using the same ink, but I did stamp that one off on scrap paper first.  I stamped the circle image from the French Foliage stamp set a couple of times using both Early Expresso ink and Crumb Cake ink.  The middle sized leaf was also stamped onto scrap Whisper White card using Cherry Cobbler ink and cut out.  I stamped the “happy birthday” from the Bring on the Cake stampset using Early Expresso ink.  I pulled a thread in the middle of a piece of Crumb Cake 1/2″ Seam Binding and attached it across the lower section of the card.  The image panel was then attached to Early Expresso card.  I cut the prongs from a Vintage Brad and attached it to the leaf I had already cut out and then attached it to the card front using dimensionals.

I really love the way this has turned out.  Such a beautiful – dare I say it – piece of art, thanks so much to Melanie for the inspiration.

I’d love to hear what your think.

Bye for now, Kris.

Embossed Vellum Gift Bag and Card

Here is the newest tutorial at Craft Project Central.  This gorgeous gift bag and matching card was created by Laurie Zoellmer.  Take a visit to her blog and check out her amazing work.  Oh, and don’t forget to let her know how much you love it.

I just love how elegant this set is.  I seldom think about using Vellum when I am creating a new project, but it is a great medium to work with and the result is truly gorgeous.

Magical Masking Take 2

August 21, 2012

This is one of the cards we will be making next weekend at my Technique Class.  This one uses the Magical Masking technique and I wanted to let everyone have a play with this really fun technique.  Of course I will supply disposable gloves for those who don’t like to get their fingers too inky.  You can find a great tutorial at Splitcoast Stampers and then you can follow the link below the tutorial to the gallery to get more inspiration.

I used Sahara Sand and Pretty in Pink to add the background to the Glossy White card.  I stamped the large teacup image and the greeting from the Tea Shoppe stamp set using Always Artichoke ink.  I punched the long edge of a piece of Pretty in Pink card using the Eyelet Edge Punch (I really love this and am going to miss it so much), wrapped it with Whisper White 1/4″ grosgrain ribbon and tied a knot.  The punched card is attached to the image panel and then to scored and folded Always Artichoke card.

I’m hoping this will give you some more inspiration to join us at Sunny Challenges and Creations this week and use the Magical Masking technique as well as the very simple sketch.

Bye for now, Kris.

Clip Board and Stationery Set

August 20, 2012

I really love the way this set uses this gorgeous designer paper which will be available for purchase in Australia and New Zealand on the 1st September.  It looks so pretty on the clipboard with those goregous flowers.  I love how many different kinds of flowers you can make with paper.  Anyway this gorgeous set was designed by Heidi King and is the latest tutorial in the August Edition at Craft Project Central.  Please take a visit to Heidi’s blog and check out her gorgeous work and don’t forget to leave her a comment.

Remember if you want to make this project, you need to subscribe to the August edition at Craft Project Central.   Only $10.00 for 10 fabulous projects.

Bye for now, Kris.

Sunny Challenge 54/12

August 19, 2012

This week it was my turn to set the challenge at Sunny Challenges and Creations.  I created a simple sketch and  I want everyone to use the technique Magical Masking.  This is a fun way to create a background for your card.  There is a great tutorial on Splitcoast Stampers which is easy to follow.

You need glossy card stock to do this technique and masking tape.  You take a length of masking tape and place it on your ink pad sticky side down, rub your finger over the masking tape and then take the tape and attach it to the glossy card and rub a little to transfer the ink.  Then you grab the end of the tape and pull it off quickly, just like you are waxing your legs. (ouch)  The ink stays on the glossy card and it doesn’t tear.  Amazing.

Anyway, I used Old Olive ink for the bottom of my card and then Tempting Turquoise for the top.  Once I had the coverage of ink I wanted, I stamped the image from the My Friend stamp set in Early Expresso.   I punched the long edge of a strip of Whisper White card using the Eyelet Edge punch (I can’t believe this is retiring) and also ran it through the Big Shot using the Perfect Polka Dots Embossing Folder, although I only embossed the top section of the card (not where I had punched).  I attached the embossed and punched card to the top of the image panel and wrapped it with Old Olive 5/8″ Satin RibbonThe image panel is attached to scored and folded Tempting Turquoise card.  I made the bow by looping a length of Old Olive 5/8″ Satin Ribbon onto itself and then wrapping the join with another piece of the ribbon.  It is attached to the card front using Mini Glue Dots.

I love this technique for making fun backgrounds.  If you need some more inspiration take a look at what Vicky, Gwen and Christine have created.  Once you have made you card, scrap page or 3d item, pop over to Sunny Challenges and Creations and add it to Mr. Linky.  I am really looking forward to seeing how many of you take up the challenge to try this technique.

Bye for now, Kris.

Finally a new creation

August 18, 2012

I had a little play tonight with a couple of things I have been wanting to try.  I have seen a couple of fish made using the Build a Blossom stamp set and thought they were very cute.  I have also wanted to play with a technique to use the Framelits Labels Collection dies to emboss instead of cutting.

I used Night of Navy ink to stamp the fish onto Very Vanilla card and then cut it out using the second smallest Framelits Labels Collection die.  Then to emboss, I laid the Standard Premium Crease Pad on to Tab 2.  Next I put the image panel, image up.  I used the smallest label and centred it inside the image panel with the cutting edge up.  Lastly I added a standard cutting plate and ran it through the Big Shot to get this lovely embossed panel around the fish.  I cut Night of Navy card using the third smallest label and attached the image panel.  I cut a strip of Night of Navy designer paper from the Regals Collection Designer Series Paper Stacks and wrapped one long edge using Night of Navy 1/4″ grosgrain ribbon.  I attached the designer series paper to Very Vanilla card which I embossed using the Perfect Polka Dots Embossing folder and then to scored and folded Night of Navy card.  Lastly I added a medium Basic Rhinestone to the fish for an eye.

Well what do you think?  Isn’t this fish really cute?  I know the card is quite simple but I really wanted to share these two ideas with you.  I am sure to be using the embossing technique a lot more in the future.  Especially now I know it is so simple.

Bye for now, Kris.
