Sunny Challenge No. 46
We had so much fun making Fancy Fold cards a couple of weeks ago that Gwen has given us the opportunity to make another one this week. A few weeks ago Lee Conrey shared a tutorial on making Z-Fold cards at Stamping 411. I can thoroughly recommend this tutorial as being really easy to follow.
I started with Whisper White card stock which I partially embossed on the inside/back of the card using the Framed Tulips Embossing Folder. I also embossed a separate piece of Whisper White card stock using the Framed Tulips Embossing Folder, attached it to Early Expresso card stock and then to the front of the card. The embossing lines up and frames the central image panel. I cut Real Red cardstock using the largest square scallop on the Scallop Squares Duo Die.
I stamped the largest flower from the Vintage Vogue stamp set using Red ink onto Whisper White card stock twice . I masked the flowers and stamped over the top using the leaves and the foliage stamp using Lucky Limeade ink. I stamped three of the small flowers from the Vintage Vogue stamp set onto scrap Whisper White card stock using Real Red ink which I had stamped off once first. I stamped one of the large flowers onto Whisper White card stock using Real Red ink. I cut each flower out and attached two of the small flowers on top of the stamped flowers. I stamped four of the single leaf images onto Whisper White card stock using Lucky Limeade ink and cut them out.
I attached the leaves behind the large flower already cut out and then attached the last small flower to the centre of the large flower. This flower is attached to the Whisper White card stock over the stamped images using dimensionals. I attached large Basic Rhinestones to the centres of all three flowers. I cut the numbers using a non-Stampin’ Up! die from Real Red card stock and attached them in the top right hand corner.
Inside the card I attached Whisper White card stock which I embossed using the Perfect Polka Dots Embossing folder to Early Expresso card stock which has one long edge punched using the Scallop Border Punch.
I stamped “happy birthday wishes” using Early Expresso ink onto Whisper White card stock and attached it to the centre of another Scallop Square cut from Real Red card stock using the Scallop Squares Duo Die. I attached the greeting piece on the inside of the card making sure that it lined up with the Scallop Square on the front of the card.
I love this fold. I can see lots of uses for it. This particular card is for my Aunty who very recently celebrated her 70th birthday. Happy Birthday Aunty Bev.
Ok so now is the time to visit Gwen and Vicky and to get some more inspiration. Once you have created your card, scrap page or 3d item, pop over to Sunny Challenges and Creations and add it to Mr. Linky. I can’t wait to see what Fancy Fold you use.
Bye for now, Kris.
Technostamper Challenge 226
I think my mojo is still on holidays, I am finding it difficult to be creative at the moment. So, to help things along I decided to play along with MaryJo’s sketch this week.
I stamped the En Francaise Background onto Pretty in Pink card using Pretty in Pink ink, sponged the edges with the same ink and attached it to scored and folded Whisper White card. I punched Wisteria Wonder card using the Dotted Scallop Ribbon Border Punch and attached a piece behind each long edge of strips of Flirtatious Specialty Designer Series Paper to create a very narrow and dainty scallop border. I stamped “best wishes” from the Sincere Salutations stamp set into the bottom right hand corner of the Pretty in Pink card using Wisteria Wonder ink. I stamped the tea cup image from the Tea Shoppe stamp set using Wisteria Wonder ink onto Whisper White card, inking only the images on either end. I stamped the middle tea cup using Pretty in Pink ink onto scrap Whisper White card, cut it out and attached it with a dimensional between the Wisteria Wonder tea cups. The Whisper White card is edged with Wisteria Wonder card punched using the Dotted Scallop Ribbon Border Punch, the same as the designer paper. I attached the image panel to the card front using dimensionals.
Here is a close up of the cups and maybe you can see just a little of the background stamping. You can also see the tiny scallop edge that is created by using the Dotted Ribbon Border Punch.
I’m not perfectly happy with this card so I’d love to hear your suggestions for improving it.
Bye for now, Kris.
Notecards and a little purse
I have had a tutorial to make this purse by Sandi Dailey tucked away in my files for a while now. It is such a cute purse, so I decided to make one and add some little notes for my granddaughter to use for her friends.
I used Basic Gray to make the purse and used the gorgeous Flirtatious Specialty Designer Paper to decorate the front and the back. I cut the top and bottom edges of the Designer Paper using one of the Edgelits Dies. Sandi had a beautiful flower on the front of her bag and I made one from Melon Mambo card stock using the 1-3/4″ Scallop Circle punch. I added a Vintage Brad to the centre and one of the “doily” shapes that you can cut from the Flirtatious Specialty Designer Paper behind before attaching it to the front of my bag. I used Whisper White Flower Brads to attached the Whisper White 5/8″ Organza Ribbon handles.
I made four little note cards 3″ x 3″ to go inside the bag. I usedWhisper White Textured card stock for the front and stamped them using the large floral image from the Creative Elements stamp set and Melon Mambo ink. The stamped Whisper White card stock was attached to scored and folded Basic Gray card stock. I stamped the letter “A” from the Monogram Sweet Alphabet onto Whisper White card stock and punched the letter out with the 1-1/4″ Circle Punch. It was attached to a Pretty in Pink 1-3/8″ Circle and then onto a Melon Mambo 1-3/4″ Scallop Circle. The letter is attached to the centre of the stamped Whisper White card stock. I cut copy paper 5-3/4″ x 2-3/4″, folded it in half and attached it into the centre of the card using the Two-Way Glue Pen.
Did I tell you how much I love the new Diagonal Scoring Plate which fits on top of our Simply Scoring Tool. You just slot this into the Simply Scoring Tool and you can create perfect diagonal lines every time. I made this cute little envelope from textured Whisper White card stock and it is just the perfect size for a 3″ x 3″ card. The envelopes were stamped using the large floral image from the Creative Elements stamp set using Melon Mambo ink.
I think it is a really cute set and I am sure Abi will have fun sending notes to her friends.
Bye for now, Kris.
Happy Birthday Emma
I made this card for my daughter Emma who celebrated her birthday at the weekend. I used the sketch at Sudsol this week and the Reason to Smile stamp set which is only available this month.
I started with a base card of Basic Black to which I added a layer of Whisper White which I embossed using the Perfect Polka Dots Embossing Folder. I attached a piece of Mocha Morning Specialty Designer Paper to Whisper White card stock, wrapped the join with Whisper White 5/8″ Organza Ribbon and tied a knot. I stamped “celebrate” from the Fabulous Phrases Stampset using Basic Black ink. I attached this to the card front using dimensionals. I inked the solid flower from the Reason to Smile stampset using Real Red and Old Olive Stampin’ Write Markers and stamped once onto scrap paper and then onto scrap Whisper White card stock. The “detail” image was inked with the same markers and stamped over the top. I cut the flower out and attached it behind the ribbon.
This is one of my favourite colour combinations – you simply cannot go wrong with it. I am happy to say that Emma loved it too.
What do you think? I love reading your comments and appreciate those that take the time to make one.
Bye for now, Kris.
Sunny Challenges Week 45
This week our challenge has been set by Vicky. She gave us a sketch and all we have to do is add ribbon. Well for some reason, this one had me thinking for quite a while. I sort of had an idea that I wanted to us our 1-1/4″ striped grosgrain ribbon and once this was in my head, I couldn’t shake the idea but didn’t quite know how to proceed.
Anyway I finally made a start and I think I am happy with what I achieved. I attached a piece of Basic Black Designer Paper from the Neutrals Patterns Designer Series Paper Stack to Cherry Cobbler card stock. I took a piece of Cherry Cobbler 1/2″ Seam Binding and pulled a thread in the centre to gather it and wrapped it around the lower edge. This piece was then attached to scored and folded Basic Black card stock. I inked the bird image from the Beautiful Season stamp set using Cherry Cobbler, Old Olive and Basic Black Stampin’ Write Markers and stamped onto Very Vanilla card stock. I attached the image panel to Cherry Cobbler and Basic Black card stock and then to the card from.
I wrapped Basic Black card stock with Basic Black 1-1/4″ Striped Grosgrain Ribbon and attached it to the card front using dimensionals and slightly covering the image panel. I stamped “merry Christmas” from the Petite Pairs stamp set using Cherry Cobbler ink onto Very Vanilla card stock and punched it using the Large Oval Punch and attached it to a Basic Black Scallop Oval before attaching to the card front using dimensionals.
Unfortunately I couldn’t get a photo of the card which showed the image panel clearly. It is really pretty and soft in person. Hopefully the close up will show you a little more detail of this gorgeous image.
I really love this card. It kind of has a vintage feel even though I didn’t use any vintage techniques.
Now it is time to visit Gwen and Vicky for some more inspiration. Once you have created your card, scrap page or 3d item, pop over to Sunny Challenges and Creations and add it to Mr. Linky. Can’t wait to see how you use ribbon with this sketch.
Bye for now, Kris.
A Sudsol Challenge
Well, you may have noticed that I haven’t been posting as much as usual lately and that’s because I have been away caravanning with my husband. We only got home on Wednesday and today is the first chance I have had to post something for you.
The challenge was to CASE a card from the US Stampin’ Success magazine (a magazine published by Stampin’ Up! for US demonstrators). It seemed simple enough and gave me a chance to try out my FREE stamp set Reason to Smile. (Take a look at this post if you don’t remember how to get this FREE.)
I wrapped 3 pieces Pumpkin Pie 1/8″ Tafetta Ribbon around Old Olive card stock and attached it to scored and folded Whisper White card stock. I embossed Daffodil Delight card stock using the Big Shot and the Perfect Polka Dots Embossing Folder and attached it to the card front over the Old Olive card stock. Then I stamped the smallest flower from the Reason to Smile stampset onto Whisper White card stock using each of the following inks; Tempting Turquoise, Rich Razzleberry, Pumpkin Pie, Real Red and Pacific Point. The base flower for each one was stamped off onto scrap paper first and then the detail image was stamped with the first impression. Don’t you love the way two-step stamps make your images look so real. Each image was punched out using the Postage Stamp Punch.
I also stamped the greeting from the Bring on the Cake stamp set onto Whisper White card stock using Old Olive ink. The greeting is punched out using the same punch. I attached each of the “postage stamps” to the card front using dimensionals. Lastly I added a medium Basic Rhinestone to the centre of each flower.
I think it has turned out really cute. What do you think?
Bye for now, Kris.
Sunny Challenge 44
The challenge at Sunny Challenges and Creations this week has been set by me. I simply decided that we should make a Fancy Fold card. There are lots of different folds you can try – tri-shutter, side step, gate fold, double slider etc., etc. I searched the resource section at Splitcoast Stampers and decided to try the Double Dutch Fold card. The tutorial by Patty Bombyk is excellent and it is a fun fold to try.
I used Whisper White card stock to create the two main pieces of the card. I also decided that I would use the Every Moment stamp set. Those of you who know me will know that colouring is not my strong point, so in fact this card has two challenges for me, the fancy fold card and the colouring.
I stamped the large image with the bird onto Whisper White card stock using Stazon Jet Black ink. I used Crumb Cake, Certainly Celery, Bashful Blue and Daffodil Delight Stampin’ Write Markers and a Blender Pen to colour the image. Then I ran it through the Big Shot using the 3rd smallest frame from the Framelits Labels Collection Dies. I cut the Certainly Celery card stock with the next largest frame to make a mat for my image. I stamped the butterfly from the Every Moment Stampset onto scrap Whisper White card using Stazon Jet Black ink and coloured it using a Regal Rose Stampin’ Write Marker and Blender Pen. I cut the butterfly out and attached it to the main image panel. This panel was the last piece I added to the card front, using dimensionals and making sure that you couldn’t see any when the card was opened.
I stamped the flower image twice on each of the lower front flaps, masking the lower image and then stamping the other image over the top. I coloured these flowers using Regal Rose, Certainly Celery, So Saffron and Crumb Cake Stampin’ Write Markers and a Blender Pen. I stamped the flower image three times on the inside of the card, masking, the first and second images to get a nice “bunch” of flowers. These flowers were coloured using the same markers as the flowers on the front of the card. I punched scrap card stock using the Scallop Square punch to create a mask and sponged Certainly Celery ink on the inside of the flaps and then attached a butterfly which I stamped, coloured and cut the same as the one on the front of the card. Before putting all the pieces together I ran the top front flap through the Big Shot using the Framed Tulips Embossing Folder.
The first picture shows the card closed and the second shows the card open. Here is a close up of the front.
Here is a close up of the stamping inside the card.
And one more of the sponged panel with the butterfly.
There are just so many parts to this card I had to share lots of photos, hope you are not bored. I love the way this card comes together and thoroughly recommend that you give it a try.
Now you need to go see what Gwen and Vicky have created for your inspiration. Once you have created your card, scrap page or 3d item pop into Sunny Challenges and Creations and add it to Mr. Linky. I am looking forward to seeing all the different folds you share.
Bye for now, Kris.
Sunny Challenges Week 43
This week Gwen has provided us with a sketch with the added proviso that we use the Ocean Commotion stampset. This has been languishing on the shelf for quite some time without seeing any ink, so it was a good opportunity to dust it off and use it. However, we have decided to open this up and really all you have to do is use the sketch. Take a look at Sunny Challenges and Creations to check the guidelines.
I stamped the “seaweed” image from the Ocean Commotion stampset onto Whisper White card stock using Old Olive ink.
I punched a strip of Pacific Point card stock using the Dotted Scallop Ribbon Border Punch, attached it behind the Whisper White card stock and then to scored and folded Old Olive card stock. I stamped the fish from the Ocean Commotion stampset using Tangerine Tango ink three times onto Whisper White card stock panels and attached them to Tangerine Tango card stock. The image panels were attached to the card front using dimensionals.
Simple but I am happy with the way it turned out. Now it is time to visit Gwen andVicky to see what inspiration they have for you – and don’t forget to leave a comment. Once you have created your card, scrap page or 3d item, then pop over to Sunny Challenges and Creations and add it to Mr. Linky. I am quite excited to see what you come up with this week.
Bye for now, Kris.

Another Pinterest Case
I found a card on pinterest which I just loved for its simplicity and decided to recreate it a-la-Stampin’ Up! You can see the original card here.
I used the Beautiful Wings embosslit to cut Tangerine Tango, Daffodil Delight, Old Olive, Tempting Turquoise and Pacific Point card stock. I attached the largest butterfly from each of these colours down the left hand side of scored and folded Whisper White card stock. I placed Mini Glue Dots in the centre of the butterflies and dimensionals under each wing to give a little lift. I stamped the greeting from Sincere Salutations using Tangerine Tango ink. Lastly I added Basic Rhinestones to each butterfly. Very simple but I think it is a fun and easy card to make.
I’d love to hear what you think.
Bye for now, Kris.
