Dinoroar

September 29, 2011

This is the last card I made for my Hostess last weekend and I know she has at least two great grandson’s who love Dinosaurs.

My base card is Pacific Point scored and folded.  I added a Whisper White layer which has been embossed using the Stripes Embossing Folder.  I also embossed a strip of Whisper White using the Square Lattice Embossing folder and attached it to an Old Olive cardstock mat and then to the card front.  I stamped the dinosaur image from the Dinoroar stampset onto Whisper White card using Soft Suede ink.  I also stamped the grass image using River Rock and Old Olive ink.  The image has been slightly offset onto a Real Red cardstock mat and attached to the card front using dimensionals.

I stamped the “Roar that means happy birthday in dinosaur” from the same stampset onto Whisper White card using Real Red ink.  I trimmed the card down to 3/8″ wide and then inserted each end into the Word Window Punch to get the rounded corners.  I cut a strip of Daffodil Delight card 1/2″ wide and inserted the ends into the 1/2″ circle punch to get the rounded ends and then attached the greeting to the card front.

I think this is a really fun stampset.  I am  hoping that my Hostess will be able to put this card to good use.

Bye for now, Kris.

Look Who’s Truckin’

September 28, 2011

This card was also part of my gift to my Hostess last weekend, another card I’m sure she can use for her great grandsons.

I used Tempting Turquoise, scored and folded as my base card.  I added a layer of Basic Black card and then added the three embossed pieces.   The Pumpkin Pie card has been embossed using the Stripes Embossing Folder, the Real Red card has been embossed using the Square Lattice Embossing Folder and the Pacific Point card has been embossed using the Perfect Polka Dots embossing folder.

I inked the truck image from the I Dig You stampset using Real Red, Pacific Point and Basic Black Stampin’ Write Markers and stamped onto Whisper White card.  I inked the present image using Pumpkin Pie and Real Red Stampin’ Write Markers and used my Stamp-A-Ma-Jig to position it into the back of the truck.  I attached a mat of Basic Black card and attached it to the card front using dimensionals.  I stamped “look who’s turning” from the On Your Birthday stampset onto Whisper White card using Real Red ink and punched it out using the 1 1/4″ square punch and attached it to a 1 3/8″ square punched from Basic Black card.  The greeting was also attached to the card front using dimensionals.

This is a really bright, happy, fun birthday card for any little boy and the greeting lets you personalise with the recipients age.

What do you think?  Know anybody who would love a card like this?

Bye for now, Kris.

An Easy Happy Birthday

September 27, 2011

I made this card as part of my gift for the Hostess at my workshop last weekend.

My Hostess has lots of great grandchildren and I thought this card would come in handy.

I started with a base card of Rich Razzleberry.

I embossed the Whisper White card using two embossing folders – Perfect Polka Dots and Petals-a-Plenty.  To do this, lay the cardstock into the folder so that it is crossways and then butt the other folder up to it and run through the Big Shot.

You get a little gap between the two lots of embossing and often a line made by the folder edges.

To cover this I cut a strip of Rich Razzleberry card and punched both long edges with the Scallop Trim Border Punch. After attaching this strip to the Whisper White card I wrapped it with Whisper White 5/8″ Organza Ribbon and tied a knot.  This whole piece was then attached to the card front.

I stamped the cupcake image from the Easy Events stampset onto Whisper White card using Black Stazon ink.  I used my Regal Rose, Rich Razzleberry and Chocolate Chip Stampin’ Write Markers to colour the image.  I attached a mat of Rich Razzleberry and attached it to the card front using dimensionals.  This is really a simple card to make but being able to add two different embossing folders to the one piece of cardstock gives maximum effect with minimum effort.

My Hostess really liked this card.

An Elegant Build A Blossom

September 26, 2011

This is the card that I demonstrated at my last workshop.  I used the Build a Blossom stampset and the Blossom Petals Builder punch.

My base card is Elegant Eggplant and I added a layer of Whisper White.  I punched a strip of Melon Mambo card using the Lace Ribbon Border punch and attached it behind a piece of Elegant Eggplant card which I embossed using the Finial Press Embossing Folder.  I wrapped the Elegant Eggplant/Melon Mambo piece with Whisper White 5/8″ Organza Ribbon and tied a knot.  This piece was then attached to the card front.  I stamped the petal image from the Build a Blossom stampset onto Whisper White card using Elegant Eggplant ink eight times and punched them out using the Blossom Petals Builder punch

I punched a Whisper White 3/4″ circle and attached the petals to it.  I tied a sliver of Whisper White cardstock through an Elegant Eggplant button from the Regals Designer Buttons and attached it to the centre of the flower using Mini Glue Dots.  I added dimensionals behind each of the petals and Mini Glue Dots to the centre of the back of the flower and then attached it to the card front.  I stamped”birthday wishes” from the Sincere Salutations stampset  using Elegant Eggplant ink.

This is really a striking card – I just love it.  The Melon Mambo really lifts the Elegant Eggplant and makes the whole card pop.

Let me know what you think.

Bye for now, Kris.

SC 09/11

September 25, 2011

Well this week Vicky has provided the sketch for us at Sunny Challenges and Creations.  Along with the sketch we need to do some heat embossing.

For my embossing I decided to do some emboss resist.  So I stamped the butterfly image from the Creative Elements stampset onto Glossy White Cardstock using Versamark and heat embossed using White Embossing powder.  I then sponged Elegant Eggplant ink all over the cardstock and used a tissue to rub the extra ink off the embossed butterflies.    I attached this to a layer of Old Olive cardstock.  I pulled a thread to gather a length of Old Olive 5/8″ Satin Ribbon and attached it behind the Old Olive card.  Then I attached this to a piece of Whisper White card which has been embossed using the Perfect Polka Dots Embossing Folder and attached the other end of the ribbon to the back.  This piece was then attached to the folded and scored Melon Mambo base card.  I stamped “happy birthday” from the Happiest Birthday Wishes stampset onto Whisper White card using Elegant Eggplant ink, attached it to an Old Olive cardstock mat then to the card front using dimensionals.  I stamped the flower from the Creative Elements stampset onto Whisper White card three times using Melon Mambo ink and cut out the various portions.  I inked the cut flowers with Versamark and heat embossed using Clear Embossing Power.  I stacked the flowers using dimensionals and then used dimensionals to attach the flower to the card front.

You can’t see the shine very well in either photo but the flower is really shiny and sparkly because of the clear embossing.   I love the beautiful effect of the embossing of the emboss resist  the sponged ink really makes the butterflies “pop”.  I haven’t used this technique in ages but have been thinking about it in relation to a couple of stampsets lately, so you may see this technique again soon.

Now for more inspiration visit Vicky and Gwen’s blogs and then once you have your card created then pop over to Sunny Challenges and Creations and add it to Mr. Linky.   I’m looking forward to seeing some beautiful creations this week.

Bye for now, Kris.

Field Flowers Birthday

September 24, 2011

This card is the make and take for a workshop I am holding today.  Hello to the ladies at Pottsville.

I love this fancy fold design.  I used Early Expresso as the base card and added accents on the side panels in Daffodil Yellow.  These Daffodil Yellow panels have been embossed using the Framed Tulips Embossing Folder.  The bottom edge of the card has been adorned with a strip of Daffodil Delight card punched using the new Dotted Scallop Ribbon Border Punch.  For the main image panel the leaves from the Field Flowers stampset were stamped using Old Olive ink.  I stamped the small flower  using Cherry Cobbler ink directly onto the card.  The base image was stamped off once onto scrap paper.  The large flower was stamped onto scrap Whisper White card using Cherry Cobbler ink, again the base image has been stamped off once and cut out.  This flower has been attached to the image panel using dimensionals.

The greeting panel was created by firstly embossing a piece of Old Olive card with the Oval Designer Frame Embossing Folder.  I then used my paper snips to trim around the image.  I stamped “birthday wishes” from the Sincere Salutations stampset onto Whisper White card using Cherry Cobbler ink and punched it out with the Extra Large Oval Punch.  The punched greeting fits perfectly inside the embossed frame.  I attached the image panel to the card using dimensionals.

This is such a fun card to make and so easy.  I found instructions to make my card on Kelly Acheson’s blog, although I did adjust the size so that I could get two cards from one A4 sheet.

If you haven’t already made one of these, give it a try, I’m sure you will be surprised at how easy it is to create.

Bye for now, Kris.

Satin Ribbon Hair Decorations

September 23, 2011

I used up some of my retired Satin Ribbon in Daffodil Delight and Night of Navy to decorate some hair elastics.  These two colours happen to be the colours for the school my granddaughter Abi attends so she will get lots of use from these.

The first instructions I read for these rosettes said to snip into the 5/8″ Satin Ribbon about every inch then you had to trim the ribbon to get a rounded effect.  However, I found some instructions somewhere that said you could run the ribbon through the Big Shot using the large scallop image on the Tasetful Trim Die, so that is what I did.  I cut 4 lengths of ribbon for each rosette.  The next thing you have to do is use your Heat Gun to make the ribbon kind of melt and give a petal shape.  I cut a 1 3/4″ circle from a Sticky Sheet using the Circles #2 Originals Die and removed the white backing and attached it to some white felt and trimmed around the circle.  I removed the orange  backing and then starting at the outside attached the straight edge of the ribbon moving around the circle and towards the middle, adding a new strip of ribbon as necessary.  I attached a Daffodil Delight button from the Brights Designer Buttons to the Night of Navy rosettes and a Night of Navy button from the Regals Designer Buttons to the Daffodil Delight rosettes.  Then I used a needle and some Linen thread to sew through the button and around the elastic bands 3 or 4 times and then tied off the ends with a knot.  I think these are so cute and I know Abi will love them.  Now I just have to make some in pretty colours for my other 3 granddaughters.

Bye for now, Kris.
