Sunny Challenge 62
This week the challenge has been set by Vicky. She gave us a lovely sketch and said we had to make “one for the girls”. This was an easy one for me as girly cards seem to be my favourite. It’s only when it comes to all things male that I get a little stuck.
I cut my Whisper White card in half lengthways to get a tall card that opens at the bottom. I embossed the top half of the card using the Perfect Polka Dots Embossing Folder. I embossed the Old Olive card using the Fancy Fan Embossing Folder. I attached a narrow piece of Night of Navy card which is punched along one long edge using the Scallop Edge Border Punch behind the Old Olive card before attaching it to the card front. I embossed a piece of Daffodil Delight card using the Stripes Embossing folder and attached it over the middle of the card front. I stamped the image from the Bordering on Romance stamp set onto Whisper White card using Stazon Jet Black ink and punched it out using the 2-1/2″ Circle Punch.
I used Old Olive, Night of Navy and Daffodil Delight Stampin’ Write Markers and a blender pen to colour the image. I stamped the same image twice more onto scrap Whisper White card and coloured two flowers from one of the images and one flower from the other one using the Daffodil Delight Stampin’ Write Marker and a blender pen and cut them out. I cut the scallop circle from the Perfect Pennants Bigz L Die from Night of Navy card and attached it behind the punched image. I attached this to the card front using dimensionals. The flowers which I cut out were attached over the matching flower using dimensionals, so that you get two layers on one flower and three on the other.
Lastly I added a few Basic Pearls to the flower centres.
I think this is girly enough, what about you?
Now if you need additional inspiration pop over to Sunny Challenges and see what Vicky has in store for you. Once you have created your card, scrap page or 3d item, add them to Mr. Linky. As always I look forward to seeing your creations.
Just to keep you all up to date, Gwen won’t be part of our challenge this week as her husband has just undergone an operation. Everything seems to be going according to plan but if she hasn’t already prepared a challenge card, then she won’t be participating at least for the next couple of weeks, she is saving all her energy to look after Ron. Hopefully he will be back on his feet in no time.
Bye for now, Kris.
My Whiteboard
I have already told you that I love Pinterest and can waste, er spend, many hours there looking at all the beautiful pins. One of the times I was looking I saw a great idea to use a photo frame as a whiteboard. Now I don’t know about you but I have reached the age when I need a shopping list. I set off to the supermarket to get a few items and when I get there I have completely forgotten what I wanted, so I buy other things I probably don’t need and arrive home and immediately remember what it was I wanted. So I decided to make a whiteboard from a photoframe to hang inside my pantry. I can duly note down what I need when I run out and transfer the items to a shopping list before setting out.
I bought my frame at one of our local discount stores (Sam’s I think) for $10.00. Its a good size as it holds a full sheet of A4, with plenty of room for me to keep my shopping list.
I decorated a sheet of Very Vanilla A4 card using Crumb Cake ink. Firstly I inked up the “E” sized clear block and stamped that a few times, then I inked up the En Francaise Background stamp using the same ink, again stamping several times. Lastly I used the swirly image from the Everything Eleanor stamp set.
I stamped the flower images from the Everything Eleanor stamp set onto Very Vanilla card using Ridinghood Red, Cherry Cobbler and Bravo Burgundy ink and cut them out. I used the Blossom Petals Builder punch to make the leaves, cutting them from Garden Green card. I inked up one of the leaves from the French Foliage stamp set using Garden Green ink and added the punched leaves, this gives the punched cardstock the look of a real leaf.
I hung it inside my pantry door using those new “velcro” photo hangers and added a little cord holder for my whiteboard marker. Shopping should be much better now.
I’d love to hear what you think of this idea.
Bye for now, Kris.
Holiday Catalogue Ornament
Ever since the Holiday Mini Catalogue was released, I have seen lots of variations on the ornament on the front cover. Of course I had to make one for myself and this is my variation. I kind of liked the symmetry of six petals, especially because the snowflake has six points on it. Most of the ones I have seen have five petals, which didn’t seem quite right to me.
I used Night of Navy card to cut the large ornaments and Whisper White to cut the small ones. There are four ornaments to each petal, six petals, 24 ornaments altogether for each colour. I used some of the Night of Navy designer paper from the Regals Designer Series Paper Stacks to make the rosette in the middle and added a Regals Designer Button tied with Whisper White Bakers Twine to the centre. Of course, the Snowflake is cut using Silver Glimmer Paper.
I decided to make my ornament double sided so that I could hang it between the tv room and the family room for Christmas. That’s a total of 48 ornaments for each colour. I did cut the Night of Navy and Whisper White card into strips so I could cut both colours together. Now I just need to have a go at making one which is stamped first.
This second version is made from Cherry Cobbler card and is one that we are going to make in my upcoming Christmas Decoration Class. More details will be posted on the Classes page soon.
I’d love to hear what you think.
Bye for now, Kris.

Sunny Challenge 61
The Sunny Challenge this week has been set by me. I provided a sketch and the proviso to use something from the new catalogue. Very easy.
I embossed Very Vanilla card using the Stripes Embossing Folder and attached it to scored and folded Cherry Cobbler card. I attached two pieces of designer series paper from the Festival of Prints Designer Series Paper Stack (new in the holiday mini), which are actually the two sides of one piece of designer paper. I inked the image from the Embellished Events stamp set (new in the annual Catalogue) using Lucky Limeade ink and then used my blender pen to remove the colour from the flowers (a technique I learned on the net somewhere – if it’s your’s please let me know and I will give you credit). Once the Lucky Limeade colour was removed, I used my blender pen and Cherry Cobbler ink to colour the flowers. I found this gave me a better depth of colour than if I used my Stampin’ Write Markers. The image is stamped onto Very Vanilla card and punched using the 2-1/2″ Circle Punch. I cut Lucky Limeade card using the 3″ Circle Originals Die.
I attached the punched image and then used the circles on the Esssentials Paper-Piercing Pack (new in the annual Catalogue) to create the pierced circle around the image. The image panel is attached to the card front using dimensionals. Just for fun (and because I had a smudge of ink) I created a bow using the Cherry Cobbler 1/2″ Seam Binding and attached it using Mini Glue Dots. I think I have used enough new product!
Now for some more inspiration pop over and visit Gwen, Vicky and Christine, once you have created your card, scrap page or 3d item visit Sunny Challenges and Creations and add them to Mr. Linky. Can’t wait to see what you all create.
Bye for now, Kris.
Another Scrap Page
It’s been quite a while since I shared a scrap page with you. This is one of Abigail from last Christmas (that makes five down and one to go, hopefully before this Christmas).
I started with Basic Black card and added a piece of Rich Razzleberry Polka Dot Designer Paper from the Brights Patterns Paper Stacks. The Designer Paper is layered onto Whisper White which has one long edge punched using the Scallop Trim Border Punch. I printed my title on the computer and cut it using the Framelits Labels Collection, added another Framelit cut from Basic Black card and attached it behind the Photo. I punched Whisper White card and Rich Razzleberry card using the new 1-1/4″ Scallop Circle Punch and the 1-3/4″ Circle Punch, cut them into a spiral and created the flowers. The leaves are cut using Old Olive card and the Little Leaves Sizzlit.
I arranged the flowers and leaves over the top right hand corner of the photo and added Basic Pearls and Basic Rhinestones to the flower centres.
I am rather pleased with how this page turned out. I love that Abigail isn’t shy about smiling even though her front teeth haven’t grown back properly.
I’d love to hear what you think.
Bye for now, Kris.
Sunny Challenge 60
The Sunny Challenge this week has been set by Gwen. She has provided us with a great sketch and added that we must use embossing. Well, I ask you, how easy is that, who makes a card these days without some embossing on it? I think my folders are nearly all worn out from over use!
I kept my card simple in keeping with the sketch. I embossed Very Vanilla card using the Petals-A-Plenty Embossing Folder. I also embossed Early Expresso Core’dinations card using the Petals-A-Plenty Embossing Folder and sanded it using the new Stampin’ Sanding System and wiped off the dust using the Core’dinations Dust Buddy. I love the effect you get when you do this. It kind of gives it a vintage feel. I attached the Early Expresso Core’dinations card to the Very Vanilla embossed card and wrapped it with Cherry Cobbler 1/2″ Seam Binding. The piece was then attached to scored and folded Garden Green card.
I stamped the greeting from the Perfect Punches stamp set onto Very Vanilla card using Cherry Cobbler ink and punched the central part of the image using the 1-3/8″ Circle Punch. I used dimensionals to attach it to a Garden Green 1-3/4″ Scallop Circle before attaching it to the card front again using dimensionals.
I love the simplicity of this card, what do you think?
If you need more inspiration then take a visit to Gwen and Vicky’s blogs and once your have created your card, scrap page or 3d item, pop over to Sunny Challenges and Creations and add it to Mr. Linky. As always I look forward to seeing your creations.
Bye for now, Kris.
Everything Eleanor Birthday
Last Friday my good friend Gwen celebrated her birthday. She was visiting with me last Saturday while I held a garage sale and I was able to give her her card only one day late.
I loved this stamp set (Everything Eleanor) when I first saw it in the catalogue so it was a must for my first order (let me tell you I liked it so much I actually bought two sets!)
I stamped the swirly image onto Very Vanilla card using Always Artichoke ink. I had to mask it a couple of times, to get the smaller swirls on the right side. Next I embossed the stamped piece using the Square Lattic Embossing Folder. I don’t know why but this one really works the best with inlaid embossing or stamped pieces. The embossed card was attached to scored and folded Ridinghood Red card. I stamped the large frame image onto Very Vanilla card using Crumb Cake ink and cut it out.
I attached it to the card front covering the ends of the swirls. I stamped happy birthday wishes from the Petite Pairs stampset onto Very Vanilla card and punched it using the Large Oval Punch. I attached it to an Always Artichoke Scallop Oval and then to the card front. I stamped the flower onto scrap Very Vanilla card three times and cut it out, each layer a little smaller than the last. The flowers are layered together using dimensionals and then attached to the card front. Lastly I added small and medium Basic Pearls to the flower. I didn’t get a photo but the inside has been stamped to match as well as the envelope.
I’d love to hear what you think of my first time using this set.
Bye for now, Kris.
Sunny Challenge 59
This week Vicky set out challenge and as well as providing a sketch, we had to make an easel card. If you do not know how to create one of these, there is an excellent tutorial at Splitcoast Stampers. I decided to borrow an idea from a card I found on Pinterest to make the focal image panel for this challenge. The original card was created by Paula Dobson.
I stamped the intricate floral image from the Mixed Bunch stamp set onto Glossy White card using Versamark ink and embossed it using White Embossing Powder. Then I sponged the centre of the flowers using Night of Navy ink, the petals using Marina Mist ink and the rest of the white space is covered with Bashful Blue ink. The mat of Night of Navy card is actually two narrow strips, one of which I punched along one long edge using the Scallop Trim Border Punch (saves on card stock and nobody can see that it doesn’t go all the way). The piece was than attached to Whisper White card.
I stamped Merry Christmas from the Petite Pairs stamp set using Night of Navy ink, punched it using the Large Oval Punch, attached it to a Night of Navy Scallop Oval and then to the card front. I cut the smallest and middle sized snowflake from Silver Glimmer paper using the Snow Flurry Bigz Die. I sponged over the snowflakes using Night of Navy ink to blend in with my colour scheme and attached them to the card front. This whole piece was then attached to the scored and folded easel card base.
I created a narrower version of the emboss resist panel, added the Night of Navy mat as before and then attached it to the base of the easel using dimensionals to hold my image upright.
As you can see I really do love the Navy/White combination!
Now for some more inspiration visit Vicky, Gwen and Christine, then when you have made your card, scrap page or 3d item, pop over to Sunny Challenges and Creations and add it to Mr. Linky. I will be really interested to see what you can create for this challenge.
Bye for now, Kris.
