A Birthday Gift

October 15, 2011

I made this gift for one of my downline who celebrated a birthday this week (Happy Birthday Shirley).  I have another downline celebrating her birthday today (Happy Birthday Jenny).

I found a tutorial by Sandy Hancock to create a box which uses the Scallop Square Bigz Clear Die for the lid.  I thought this was a terribly clever idea and used it to make this little gift box.  I created the box which fits onto an A4 sheet of card.  My base card is Melon Mambo and I have added pieces of the Flirtatious Specialty Paper.  I created my accents by cutting two of the doilies from the large laser cut sheet in this Designer Paper and using the white side.  I punched 3 1 3/4″ circle scallops from Melon Mambo card and used my bone folder to distress each one until I could separate them into two layers.  I scrunched each one into a tight ball and then opened them out, stacked them onto a brad (any brad any colour because you don’t see it once the flower is made) and scrunched each layer again up and around the brad.  Then I opened the layers again, used Mini Glue Dots to attach it to the centre of the laser cut doily and then used Mini Glue Dots to attach one flower to the front of the box and one to the lid.  I used Whisper White 5/8″ Organza Ribbon to create a little handle.

I punched a strip of Melon Mambo card stock using the Lace Ribbon Border and attached this behind a strip of Flirtatious Specialty Designer Paper and then added it to Pretty in Pink  card stock.   I stamped ‘happy birthday” from the Happiest Birthday Wishes stampset using Melon Mambo ink.  I wrapped this piece with Whisper White 5/8″ Organza Ribbon and tied a knot.  This whole piece was then attached to the scored and folded Melon Mambo card base.  I created the flower the same way as for the box, however I used a different laser cut doily as the backing.

Since this card is for someone special I decorated the inside of the card.   I stamped a piece of Whisper White card using the Delicate Doilies Stampset.  The large image is in Melon Mambo ink and the smaller image in Pretty in Pink ink.  I stamped the greeting from the On Your Birthday stampset using Melon Mambo ink.

Of course no box would be complete without a few chocolates.

You can see inside the box and how the handle keeps the lid attached to the box.  The Scallop Square Bigx Clear Die is scored at 7/8″ on each side, cut up to the score line on two sides and then assembled using Sticky Strip.  Such an ingenious idea.

Sandy has another tutorial for this box on her blog, so don’t forget to check them both out.

Bye for now, Kris.

Golden Snow Swirled

October 14, 2011

Here is the make and take we did at my Embossing Workshop last weekend.

I  stamped the tree from Snow Swirled onto Cherry Cobbler card stock using Versamark ink – after rubbing the cardstock with my embossing buddy.  I sprinkled on Gold Embossing Powder, tapped off the excess and then used the Heat Tool to set the embossing powder.  I added the tree panel to a layer of Very Vanilla card stock and set it aside.  I stamped  “seasons greeting” from the Snow Swirled stampset onto the bottom of another piece of Cherry Cobbler Cardstock using Versamark ink.  I sprinkled on Gold Embossing Powder and heat set it using the Heat Tool.  I added a piece of Victoria Crochet Trim and tied it in a knot.  I attached the greeting piece to scored and folded Very Vanilla card stock.  Lastly I attached the tree panel to the card front.

Again this is a very simple card but  the gold embossing powder really “pops” against the Cherry Cobbler card stock.

I’d love to hear what you think.

Bye for now, Kris.

A Christmas Make and Take

October 13, 2011

Last weekend I held a workshop for a new customer who wanted me to show her and her friends how to use the heat gun.

This is the very simple card I demonstrated to show how to use the Embossing Buddy, Embossing Powder and Heat Tool.  I wiped all over a piece of Whisper White card stock using the embossing buddy and then stamped the swirly image from the Season of Joy stampset using Versamark ink.  I poured over Gold embossing powder, tapped off the excess and then used my Heat Tool to set the embossing powder.  I don’t know about you but I still get this “wow” feeling when I see the embossing powder change colour.  I  also stamped “seasons greetings” from the Many Merry Messages stampset onto the bottom right hand side, using Versamark  and my stamp-a-ma-jig to ensure perfect placement.  Again this was heat set using Gold Embossing Powder. The Whisper White card stock was attached to scored and folded Ridinghood Red card stock.

I stamped the flower image from the Season of Joy stampset onto Whisper White card using Ridinghood Red ink and had one of the guests cut them out while I did the embossing.  I also punched one 5 Petal Flower from Garden Green cardstock and cut two of the petals away.  I pierced a hold through the centre of the flowers using my Paper Piercing tool and Mat Pack and inserted a gold brad.  I attached the Garden Green flower behind the cut flower to represent leaves and then attached the flower to the card front using dimensionals.

As I said a very simple card but I think it is quite elegant and a very easy one to reproduce.

Bye for now, Kris.

A Posy of Flowers

October 12, 2011

Last weekend my Hostess’s daughter (Hi Sharron) wanted to know how to put the Petal Cone Bigz L Die together to make a vase.  She had seen the one I made previously in All White.  Sharron is vision impaired and loves to make 3D projects.

I cut Elegant Eggplant card stock using the Petal Cone Bigz L Die to get 2 pieces of the cone shape.  I also cut two shapes from  Very Vanilla card stock.  I assembled the Elegant Eggplant pieces to form the Petal Cone and cut down the Very Vanilla pieces to create the panels to add to the Petal Cone.  I ran the Very Vanilla pieces through the Big Shot using the Perfect Polka Dots Embossing Folder.  Once my box was assembled I cut a tiny portion from the top to enable me to add my flowers.

All the pieces for the flowers were cut using the Fun Flowers Bigz L Die.  I used Perfect Plum cardstock and Very Vanilla.  For the flower at below I just stacked the pieces together alternating colours with a Bitty Button in the centre.  I threaded florest wire through the button and then through the centre of the flower shapes.

To make the white flower I again cut the pieces from Very Vanilla card using the Fun Flowers Bigz L Die and then I distressed each piece to separate each one into two pieces.

I then sponged Perfect Plum ink onto the edge of each piece, scrunched each piece into a tiny ball and then opened them out.  I again used a Bitty Button in the centre with the florest wire threaded through and stacked all the flower pieces, making sure to stagger the petals.  Once again I scrunched each piece up around the button and then opened the pieces out again.

I wanted to show that you could create flowers in two ways using the same die.

Although I have made the vase before, I got the inspiration for these flowers from a project that was shared at Inkspiration 4U online.  This is a great site to join to get some amazing projects.

Sharron was delighted with the project and I think it turned out really pretty.  The small decoration on the front of the vase is one large flower from the Boho Blossoms Punch and a couple of sets of leaves punched using the Bird Builder punch.  This vase matches the Two Tags basket that I shared with you yesterday.

I’d love to hear what you think of this project.

Bye for now, Kris.

Two Tags Basket

October 11, 2011

Here is a little basket that I demonstrated how to make last weekend.  I found the tutorial quite a while ago on Cindee Wilkinson’s blog.

I won’t go into the details of how to make it, you can get all that clearly and easily from Cindee’s tutorial (thanks Cindee).  However I used Elegant Eggplant card stock to cut the two large tags from the Two Tags Bigz Die.  I also used the same card stock to create the little box section to join the two tags together.  I added pieces of Very Vanilla card stock which have been embossed using the Perfect Polka Dots embossing folder  to the front and back of the box.  I punched the largest flower from the Boho Blossoms Punch from Elegant Eggplant card stock and used my bone folder to give it a little shape.  I punched two sets of leaves from Certainly Celery card stock using the Bird Builder Punch and attached them behind the flower.  I used Mini Glue Dots to attach the flower and leaves  to the basket and added a large Basic Pearl to the centre.  I cut the handle from Elegant Eggplant card stock and punched both long edges with the Scallop Trim Border Punch.  I added a strip of Very Vanilla card stock which is embossed using the Perfect Polka Dots Embossing Folder.  I slipped the ends of the handles through the slot in the Tag and then using the hole which is already in the tag as a guide pierced through the handle and added a Clear Rhinestone Brad to hold the handle in place.

There are so cute and would look good filled with chocolates for almost any occasion – Birthday, Christmas, Easter.

I had fun showing the ladies how to make this and I know they thought it was very cute.

I love creating fun 3D projects with all the great products that Stampin’ Up! has to offer.

Bye for now, Kris.

A Hostess Gift with Array of Sunshine

October 10, 2011

I just love the Array of Sunshine Hostess stampset from the current catalogue.  It probably has something to do with all the layering you can get from the flowers.  I do love to cut my stamps out to add dimension to my projects and this set is just perfect for it.

I made a set of 4 cards and a box to hold them for my one of my Hostesses last weekend.  I used  the new in-colours Lucky Limeade and Wisteria Wonder, because Lynda just loves purple or mauve.

I started with Whisper White card stock scored and folded card and added a layer of Lucky Limeade card stock which I have embossed using the Square Lattice Embossing Folder.  I cut the Top Note die from Whisper White card stock and attached it to the centre of the Lucky Limeade card stock.  I stamped the large flower from the Array of Sunshine stampset 3 times onto Whisper White card stock using Wisteria Wonder ink and cut one whole flower, one flower with two sections and one just the centre of the flower.  I also stamped the small flower onto Whisper White card stock twice using Wisteria Wonder ink.  I cut one whole flower and one with just the centre flower.  I stamped the large leaf image from the same stampset onto Whisper White card stock using Lucky Limeade ink and cut it out.  I also stamped the small leaf onto Whisper White card stock using Lucky Limeade ink and cut it out.  I attached the flower sections to each other using dimensionals and then arranged the leaves and flowers onto the Top Note.  I added a large Basic Pearl to the centre of the large flower and used my Two-Way Glue Pen to colour in the centre of the small flower and add some Dazzling Diamonds.  Lastly I stamped the greeting from Sincere Salutations onto Whisper White card stock and punched it out using the Large Oval Punch, attached it to a Scallop Oval cut from Wisteria Wonder card and then attached it to the Top Note.

I used Gwen’s Quick Box pattern  from The Three Sisters Blog to make the box.  (This is a free site.)  I stamped the large flower onto Whisper White card stock using Wisteria Wonder ink and cut out the flower.  I stamped the large leaf onto Whisper White card using Lucky Limeade ink and cut them out.  I attached the leaf and flower to the piece of Whisper White card stock and then embossed the whole piece using the Square Lattice Embossing Folder.   I attached this piece to the lower front of the box.  To decorate the flip top I stamped the small flower twice onto Whisper White card using Wisteria Wonder ink and cut out one whole flower and one small flower.  I placed the small one on top of the large one using a dimensional.  I stamped one large leaf image and two small leaf images onto Whisper White card stock and cut them out. I attached the leaves and the flower to Whisper White cardstock and then stamped “a gift for you” from the Bring On The Cake stampset on the right hand side using Wisteria Wonder ink.  I coloured the centre of the flower using my Two-Way Glue Pen and added Dazzling Diamonds.

I didn’t take a photo but I decorated the back of the box in a similar manner to the front of the box by attaching a large flower in the centre of the back panel with one large set of leaves on either side and then embossed with the Square Lattice Embossing Folder.

This is a great box pattern as it will hold 4 cards quite easily or a very heavily embellished card you want to hand deliver.

My Hostess was very pleased with her gift.

Bye for now, Kris.

SC 011/11

October 9, 2011

I cannot believe how fast the weeks are going. Christmas really is only just around the corner. Anyway this week the sketch at Sunny Challenges and Creations is brought to you by me.
In addition to using the sketch you need to use the Season of Joy stampset.  This stampset is a favourite of mine and has lots of elements to use to create a  card.  I hope that you can find time to play along with us this week.

My card is very traditional.  Real Red and Whisper White.  I seem to be doing lots of cards with white and another colour lately.  Oh well. …

I attached a piece of Real Red Designer Paper from the Brights Patterns Designer Series Paper Stack to a piece of Real Red card stock.  I attached this to the lower edge of  a piece of Whisper White card stock.  I embossed another piece of Whisper White card stock using the Perfect Polka Dots Embossing Folder, again attached it to Real Red Cardstock and then attached it to the card front.  I stamped the large greeting image from the Season of Joy stampset onto Whisper White cardstock using Real Red ink and attached it to Real Red card stock.  The image panel is added over the other layers using dimensionals I attached 7″ lengths of Real Red 1/4″ grosgrain ribbon to the back of each side of the Whisper White card near the top.  I attached the Whisper White card to the front of scored and folded Real Red card stock, making sure to keep the ribbon ends free.   Then I tied a bow with the ribbon over the top of the embossed panel.

Simple really but I do think the Real Red and Whisper White is very effective – don’t you?

Now pop in and visit Gwen and Vicky to see what they have created for your inspiration.  Once you have completed your project then visit Sunny Challenges and Creations and add it to Mr. Linky.

We really do look forward to seeing how you use the sketches each week.

Bye for now, Kris.
